So, I've recently had a book idea focusing around an alternate history where humans advanced using the powers of water and wind rather than fire. This led to no steel or metal-based structures and guns are comparable to uber-airsofts. My book takes place during this universe's first "World War." A major battle towards the end concludes with England introducing their latest weapon and destroying Berlin; The Hydrogen Bomb.

My map takes place mere hours after the bomb (A stationary, ground based explosive in the book. Radiation is just as bad, but the explosion is far less devastating.) at ground zero. It is a VIP game where the team must escort the VIP into the heart of Ground Zero to recover pieces of the bamb for research. After that, the VIP must be escorted back out of ground zero.

Trying to stop you along the way are survivors of the bomb; Crazies and Mutants. They aren't tough (The radiation is killing them anyway) and are only a threat in numbers.

So, I want to know what you guys think of the map idea. And, a major porblem with the book and map is that I'm having trouble envisioning was some of the tech would look like. I have a basic design for Powerplants, houses, and weapons. However, I'm not to sure what town squares and things like major archetecture should look like. Vehicals are anothing thing I'm stumped on.

Any ideas to help out a fellow forger?

Seems like it could work, but wouldn't oddball be better than VIP? As for the architecture I'd imagine everything to be a lot smoother (Not sure why), like with curved edges instead of corners of buildings. Won't most of the buildings be blown to pieces anyway?

I'm building the map on sandbox and will have a large crater as ground zero. However, there are some buildings which weren't completely destroyed, along with those on the outskirts of the crater. And why would oddball be better?

    I was wondering that myself.
Simply having 2 escort points into ground zero and one in a 'safety zone' would suffice.

Because then you'd be picking up something, like a piece of the bomb. I dunno, there's probably something that makes VIP better. I stick to slayer most of the time so I don't really know what I'm talking about.

How about One Flag or One Bomb, with the flag/bomb being the H-bomb piece?

Then I can't give the other team seoerate traits.

And a Bomb, Flag, or Oddball would impare movement and combat capabillities, which I can only imagine as hurting gameplay.

You could have the fragment be a custom powerup whose radiation when that close gives off some sort of trait.

how could there be an h bomb if thers no fire to produce steel or planes to drop the bomb from??Lol sounds like a great idea. When i hear "water" and "wind" i think of curvy architecture(almost like covy archy) rather tha the traditional western style.

Listen guys, I'm asking for help with the archetecture, not the gametype. I mostly have the game figured out.

And Urban: The casing is made out of a primative matallic alloy; it is very diffacult for them to make. And the bomb is set off on the ground, not from a plane.

I dunno about architecture style but personally I envision a massive crater with half demolished buildings on its outskirts with the 'crazies' attacking from those.

I think you should use Territories. That way, while the bomb is being "inspected" at Ground Zero, you would be forcing the team to stay there and hold out for a little while. Returning could be a long wait too, but think of it as waiting for an evacuation party.

Edit: I know you asked about the map architecture only, but I don't see why this isn't a good idea to use.

Now as for architecture, the bomb explosion site should be a crater, with objects stuck in the ground of the pit along the sides. That way, while the defenders are down in this crater, the attackers have a little bit of cover while they make their way in for kills.

Okay, In light of suggestions, I will make multiple gametypes to go with the map. Thanks for those ideas guys.

And Curvy how? Domed spherical buildings made of stone? Open roofs? Windowless?

Yeah, that sounds good. Question, though: what exactly does the H-bomb do? Is it just the equivalent of an atomic bomb? If that's the case, you could actually make the "default" area of Sandbox the crater, and the tower and everything actually be outside with the Guardians blocked.

The H-bomb is comparable to real Hydrogen Bombs. But, the exolosion is much less devastating. Radiation is no less of a problem though.

And yes, I planned on using the main area as the crater. With half destroyed buildings and what-not. However, the gaurdians will not be blocked; they will be called "Snipers" (aka, hazmat gaurds keeping the area secure.)

Around the outside, the ground will raise at a gradual slope. This will be where the most intact buildings still lie; the towns outskirts. One such building will be the Berlin Zepplin Tower, where you make your escape. (Yes, the main form of air transport is hot air balloons. Fire is used to a very primative extent; like how we use stuff like wind power.)

You wanted to use the main area? I dunno, I think it'll be better in the Crypt. It'll give off a creepier feeling - the darkness will make it seem like there is smoke in the sky. I dunno. Anyway, architecture shouldn't be domed buildings. You should make curvy pillars and doorways and stuff like that. Well, they're my ideas. Good luck with the map.

The buildings should be large, economical, have tall rooms, open aired and well ventilated, and smooth. If you're planning on including vehicles, any UNSC vehicle will do, they run on hydrogen, give little or no exhaust, and at least they look human. Covenant vehicles might due, but the brute vehicles look more crude than others. If you meant aesthetic vehicles, which might be more difficult, I have no idea, but have them similar to architecture, smooth, practical, and economical.

I guess fire-based weapons can be included since man is experimenting with fire like you said before, since the firebomb and flamethrower aren't really complicated.

You stated that the map is based around the impact crater, so you will need a lot of objects to reproduce the effect of a crater. The buildings around the crater should be crumbling, and to conserve objects a path that makes the game more linear leads out of the crater and into a street lined with buildings less damaged as you go further out. Maybe if you build it in the crypt you can save objects and have a dark feeling that would act as the radiation cloud.
