It was the second most popular H5 temporary playlist after Covie slayer. Sure, it was unpopular to you and other's who hold similar opinions, but it was wildly popular population wise.
I'm not discrediting the forgers or their maps. But look at it like this. Of the 106 maps put into Matchmaking that were made in Forge, how many are in core playlists that are meant to be taken seriously. 1. How do you think 343 thinks of forgers based on that metric. The community doubles was the most populated playlist in Halo 5, correct? At least that's what they said, yet after two months they removed the maps and put dev maps back in. There is only one map, White Cell, that sits in the Team Slayer playlist and that's it. That tells me they don't take us seriously. --- Double Post Merged, Aug 3, 2017 --- Yes because it was a temporary playlist with the name "Anniversary Throwback". That doesn't change the fact that there wasn't a single positive comment about the playlist during it's run outside of the fact that the maps were well made. Warzone is probably consistently the most populated in H5. Guess it must be baller.
I never thought about that. White cell is the only map that was ever taken competitively seriously. Just imagine for a second that 343 regularly put maps into matchmaking and regularly announced the kind of maps they were looking for from launch. We would have all probably made twice as many maps as we have now, and all of the maps would likely be of a higher quality than our current map pool. I know it's sort of off topic, but I remember how fun it was when the 2v2 contest was first announced. So many forgers were on every night talking about maps and map design, but the 2v2 contest was the last good contest we've had (sorry, but only like 5 people total actually care about grifball or extermination). In my estimation, we have failed as a community in this department just as much as 343 failed with matchmaking and forge. (not to mention the sub-par winners) Long story short, we can do better in Halo 6. I fully intend, at least for a bit, to forge regularly in that game. If Halo 5 has proven anything, it's that a strong community with a good editor can overcome a bad game so long as the proper incentives are provided, and half of those incentives come from within. I hope and pray that 343 realizes how much potential is being wasted with community driven content, but until then, we can do better.
The current classic playlist is being used as a testbed for new ideas in map gathering, selection, and playlist building. If successful you can be certain their methods of sourcing forge content will change from this point forward.
https://discord.gg/x7CBD Maybe we can work side by side more then. I had the same thing on my mind and started gathering forgeheads together to brainstorm as well. The objective is to make progress towards an amazing UCC system that is effortless and fluid.
I find it mind-blowing that 343 have, at their disposal, a community full of creative people passionate about making maps, and they don't take advantage of it to the extent they can. Why is there only one competitive community forge map? There could have been way more forge maps in Skirmish at least. Is it pressure from the competitive community? The mentality that all forge maps are casual? I don't know but the current line up of Arena maps offers the worst diversity of experiences in any Halo so far. Embracing the forge community could have quickly fixed this. I have brought this up a few times but the big one for me is the lack of transparency. Why is it whenever 343 are looking for maps, damn near nobody is told? Implementing maps into matchmaking always gets treated like a top secret operation for no good reason. More community involvement means more maps, more input, and better quality content.
They don't trust us and/or forge, must likely (I'm assuming) because they don't fully trust themselves. If it were between Marvel or DC, Bungie was Marvel, and 343 is DC.
As i stated, they are indeed changing their approach and are using the classic playlist as a testbed for new ideas in moving maps to matchmaking.
I agree 343 could improve some things but I don't think the forge community has been the greatest partner either. Can't wait to see the fruits of what you're hinting at @NOKYARD.
speaking of playlists... can we get the ability to create a playlist for customs? Like, set several maps and gametypes to play in succession? It would require some input from the host each match, such as changing the number of players, and give them an opportunity to edit the list and kick players, but it would be very helpful so that those who are pissed that a playlist that they desire doesn't exist in MM. We could just go on our own and say "**** it"
I've thought about this before and wished it was a thing. We can still have the custom browser we have now but have a separate section for dedicated custom game lobbies. Instead of showing a single map, it'll show a playlist of maps that will be played. That way lobbies can have a theme to them if they wanted. One lobby could solely play linear infection maps while another just do races. The idea of servers also pop up that just constantly run custom games but I feel that's unnecessary for Halo.
YES! If it showed up like this: Playlist Name "My playlist name of stuff I like to play, here" Current Map: Such 'n Such Gametype: CTF We could name the lobbies by the playlist, and people could easily find their favorite recurring lobbies over time! What I do right now is create gametypes that are telling players what the theme is... Like "Slayer on Forge Maps", so they know there will be no 343i maps, or vice versa.
