Hey all! It's been a while.

For Christmas, i'm considering getting an Alienware gaming computer desktop (possibly a laptop?). I love gaming on the PC, more so than on console, and with my Xbox on life support, I've started to play more computer games (mostly Fallout New Vegas).

So, i would like your help in getting a new computer. What should a be looking for? What's worth it and what isn't?

My Budget is at $2000, but i might be able to go a few hundred over that limit. It would be great if it were a laptop, for performance and cost reasons, but i would like your opinion.

    Thanks!

pc gaming is quickly becoming outdated. you dont need a high spec pc to run the best PC games. just get a sleek one that runs smoothly....

Alienware is EXTREMELY overpriced (trust me, I know. I have one). My medium/average spec-ed Alienware is over FIVE THOUSAND dollars...

    Just build it yourself.

What? Laptops have worse performance at a higher price.

It sounds like your computer can already run the games you play. My advice: don't buy a computer that you don't need.

Thanks for all the helpful advice everyone! It seems clear to me that getting an Alienware Computer or Laptop is not a wise choice. That will save me a bunch! But the reason i am getting a new computer is:
    1. The one i'm using is starting to slow down
    2. I wouldn't have to fight over who gets to use the computer
    3. I want a computer for myself

So, what things should i look for in a computer? What is needed and what isn't?

You can do SO much better than Alienware.
    Overpriced and underpowered.

Building a PC is your best bet.

Back when alienwares were originally they were the ****. The original company made alienware popular, but in 2006 they sold the brand to Dell and now dell manufactures them. Dell uses cheap parts, but still keep the overprice because alienwares are heard of everywhere. Alienwares are not how they used to be and if you willing to waste your money just for the alien logo in the front, then go ahead. The original people that started alienware have made a new company now and sell quality gaming computers but they are a tad expensive. Since your budget is $2000, you can probably afford their computers. ORIGIN PCs - Custom Built Gaming Desktops and Laptops

Alienwares are better than everyone makes them out to be. Just one of those bandwaggon hate things. My Alienware was the best computer I've ever used. I don't know what it was, but it just seemed better than anything else. It was specd pretty decently, but overall it was faster, smoother and ran better than anything I've owned or used. However, it was ridiculously expensive. If you do still want an AW I'd get a desktop, but honestly gaming PC's are worth it..

yes they are good computers, but they are at least triple the price and you dont get what you need, for example you can buy a computer from them and get a GTX 230 and 16gigs of ram.

I agree with this to an extent. As far as buying some insane tricked out brand name computer for the sole purpose of gaming, don't bother. But having a computer that's compatible for the newer games, it's worth it. So in other words, just build your own like pretty much everyone else has suggested. It's not as hard as people make it out to be.

buying a pre-built yes but building it yourself it is totally worth it, I cant touch my xbox now because it is just bad compared to PC games.

My experience with alienwares? If you're damn set on getting an alienware, which it doesn't look like you are at this point, their laptops seem a little sturdier compared to their desktops when you put 'em neck and neck against other laptops and desktops in the assembly line. If a laptop is what you want then go for an M11x quad core, I've heard nothing but praise for it. However, that doesn't change the fact that alienware in general is overpriced. ASUS has a G73 gaming laptop for some 1200 at Bestbuy. I believe it has 8 gigs on the ram, i7 quad core processors and some absolutely outrageous graphics card. However, if it's for gaming that you want then a desktop is always the better option. Building your own desktop is always the better option if you're willing to put in the time and of course, you know what you're doing. But if then I can probably do a quick search and find you some fast computers for low prices; since I was looking to buy one myself I've already got a list of possibilities made out. Hope I helped :p
