this would be an awsome one flag/one bomb. are you going to put in some more base type structures (mabey up either end)?
What a great idea. As long as you define the ribcage, this will come out great, and unique at the very least. The idea of making a mammoth skeleton is just amazing in itself. If you have any money left over, I would definitely try and incorporate a simple one-flag type game. A good idea for bases might be to create make-shift caves. Good luck!
Ehh... Normal gametypes like team slayer or 1 sided flag don't look good at all for this kind of map. Seriously But I would really like to see how rocket race on this would be! As for the aesthetics, really good job! One of the most creative maps I've ever seen. It's just looks so sweet.
When i first looked at the SketchUp picture, it made me think of Burial Grounds, Come to think of it, is anyone ever going to remake that?
Well so far I have been neglecting my baby, lol I have the First and second set of ribs done. Now I'm more so worrying about the head because i want to make it as real as possible, but am running into problems. Maps coming along swimmingly otherwise.. I'll prolly get more pictures up soon
I voted no. this map doesn't need bases, it could be an awesome FFA map ala guardian, but I don't think bases would be the way to go with this.
Here's what I would do, scrap the top side version. When I think of mammoth skeletons, I also think of caves. Do this in the crypt and make a giant cave that can have tunnels leading to other areas. This would save on budget, because I can tell this would be a budget busting project. Not to mention it would be all used in small areas which means that there would be large portions of the topside bare, or at best, bland. The concept is very cool. But the smaller crypt and the dark lighting of it would serve it better.
Jesus! Thanks for your input, but seriously you have no idea how hard it was to make this. The forging may not look like a lot, but I'm over halfway done and it ****ing pisses me off when people say to scrap that or this! If you want it in the crypt then go ****ing forge it yourself. Seriously. My guess is that you ONLY looked at the first picture of just the uncompleted head. Heres what I have done... The head is almost complete, I have the ribs done except for the part connecting to the hip bones. I started making base structures, and ideas. I've merged objects to the height of rocks for cover and aesthetic affect. Don't tell me to scrap it.
Bases are so overdone. Really, try something different. Scaffolding and wooden planks could be used to give the impression that archeologists are studying it, and it would add verticallity to the map. Maybe if you could make it so you could walk iside the skull and look out the eyes. Although you'd have to be careful with the budget and the object limit.
I guess if you don't want it to be playable. I think it's unique to find an aesthetic map that can be played on, you said Eight Emerald Legs inspired you to make this and gameplay was awesome for that map. I say yes to bases.
You don't necesarrily need bases for a map to be playable. >_> That's why I said try something different.
Let me tell you That could possibly be one of the most ambitious things I have every seen done in sandbox. Good luck with all the harder stuff.
That looks sic. If you can pull this off itll be featured for sure. It kinda reminds of Burial Mounds from Halo2. Was that intentional or coincident.
Wow this is coming along really nicely. If you do want to make it playable, (I think i would be cool) I think that the bases may be a good idea, if just for the sake of weapon placement. I mean you could have weapons just scattered on the ground, which isn't to good, or have them on the skeleton, but I feel like that short of ruins the feel. I mean like why would there be a shotgun on an uncovered skeleton? But anyways that map looks really cool aestheticaly.
the concept is very creative, and i can understand how tedious that is. im excited to see the finished product, and i think if the asthetics are gonna be this good, playability isnt so much of an issue.
