* The header image above was created by Gorebound, and the screenshots were editted by him * Download Map Abyss is a large and asymmetrical map setup primarily for large free for all games. A Slayer match with eight people is what most people would likely enjoy the most. The map is designed in a similar way to the popular map Lockout from Halo 2 and Guardian from Halo 3. The map is however very different, but that is the most similar bungie map, and it's around the same size. Abyss is a very unique map for One Flag and One Bomb, since there are completely different bases for each and each cause the game to focus in different areas of the map. A very unique feature of Abyss is a giant portal on the map. The portal is four stories tall, and hard to miss. Upon entering the portal, you will appear at one of three random points on the map and moving at a random speed. The only powerup on the map, a custom powerup is picked up by entering the portal. You can change the effect of the custom powerup in the options for the mode you playing to setup unique custom games where you must enter the portal to get special traits, such as speed or shields. The power weapons on the map are placed in such a way that they aren't used to much during gameplay, due mostly to the delayed spawn of most of them, and look good when not picked up. The energy sword is hanging upside from a wall suspended from a wire spool. Upside down shield doors around it, and a "vent" in the floor allow access to it, make the area look nice, and make it a challenge to survive getting the weapon. The gravity hammer is up high on a tower, and standing straight up. The needler spawns behind the portal, just above the ground on a nice spot that is not safe, but at the same time, not a death trap as it does provide a little cover. There map is designed in such a way that there are very many ways from any point on the map to any point on the map. Since there is so much scenery on the map, and many ways around it, it no longer looks Foundry, and can be easy to get lost. Think of the map the same way you did the maps that came with the game, since it's setup in a very similar way. Before enjoying the map fully, you'll have to learn a lot of it through playing. There are many unique design features on Abyss. One of them is that teleporters are used for scenery, an example is at the One Bomb Plant Point. Another design feature of Abyss is that bridges are interlocked into upside down open boxes to make unique looking tunnels. Trucks and dumpsters are integrated into the geometry to make certain areas destructable. One truck can kill people walking over it if you get a good, well timed, grenade toss. A large tunnel goes through the middle of the map. It makes two, quick, right angled turns. Entering any of the mancannons inside of it will make you propel quickly through the rest, approximately one dumpster above ground. Near this tunnel you can also go underground to try to suprise you enemies, however your very vulnerable to grenades while down there. Download Map Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy Abyss!
If this were textured, I wonder if it would end up looking like a bungie original, although I am just speculating.
Man just the amount of detail in the map is amazing. interlocking is perfect, weapons are well timed and the whole feel of it was.....weird lol. That Giant portal look sick dude. I like the weirdness of it...it draws you in...and then out again lol. great job. =]
Looks great I will review this for the Furious Review. Just give me some time since I will probably get to this map over the weekend but definitely by next Tuesday.
I think a Furious Review of this would be a good idea. Also the pics are working for me now. I like the way u positioned the weapons and the way u used that receiver node as scenery. After i saw Furious D 18 do it in one of his maps i used it in one of mine (which i'm not gonna publish) and now u used it.
I don't know why the pics didn't work for you at first, I hosted all of them on Imageshack. For some reason, Imagshack images seem to take a while to load on some computers though. I hadn't noticed that the teleporter scenery had already been used, I thought that was original :squirrel_sad:. The map you are thinking of Exacted I think, with the flower. I used the telepoters a bit differently, in about four spots in this map (I don't remember exactly) they are used as lamps that produce green light in dark areas. They are activated, as part of the portal, but setup such that it's impossible that you'd end up using them as teleporters while playing. I'm glad you guys are interested in reviewing it, I've seen some very well thought out and well written reviews for other maps, and I'd be curious to see what others thought of this map, since it took quite a while to make.
Actually now that i think about it i remember seeing a map i think you made that had one room that had green lighting from teleporters or something like that. If i'm remembering correctly that map (if u made it) came out before Exacted so u actually would have been the first for Teleporter Scenery.
This is one of the better maps that have been recently posted. Along with a few others, this is wonderful. it really does seem to have an "official" bungie feelinging. Keep to it. There is some really advanced interlocking as well, always a good thing. I hope you make more maps like this. - Brute Captain
Excellent job, Gravedigger! I gotta get a closer look at that portal. Nice to see someone else hang those shield doors in a more aesthetic way, too!
Thanks guys, I'm glad your enjoying the map. My map The Jungle, used teleporters for scenery a little as well, and came out a little before Exacted. The way it's used in Exacted is different though.
Goin with what every1 else said, this map just looks wierd. But its a good wierd 'I think'? Anyways.. Ima DL it to check it out. Im kinda interested in this portal thingy and just the general layout of your map. Congrats. You have won a DL!
Played on this before with Gravedigger, very very good map! Exciting gameplay and slanted walls makes this map fun to play on. The portals that just shoot you up is very original and makes the game unpredictable. Great Work!
Thanks. And I forgot to mention that the map has been changed since I got the screenshots. A lot of walls and things were neatened up and an additional entrance to the One Bomb Defenders base was added. The other changes were just spawns and things, and not in the screenshots.
I did a forgethrough of this earlier this morning and wanted to throw in my two cents for what it's worth. This thing is crazy. I actually had a difficult time wrapping my brain around the layout. To compliment your description, this map actually looks like an alien race built it. Really gotta wonder how that mind of your works, Gravedigger. If this map is any indication, you scare me a little. This may be your best effort yet, nicely done!
Oh I remeber playing this with you. It is a very different map. It is very detailed. The Giant portal is my favorite. Nicely done.
