Abandoned Base (Quake DM3)

    I was curious if anyone is familiar with this level? I would love to see a skilled forge map builder bring this map to life.

    A lot of the Quake maps don't transition well into Halo but it can be done with some modifications to either the map or gametype usually, I think. UNSC Fenix Hulk did a really nice looking "Longest Yard" remake that is still in beta. I don't think there is much interest in many forgers looking to remake Quake maps unfortunately. I'd like to see some more Unreal ones as well.

    it just comes down to making a gametype that is reminescent of those older style shooters.

    faster movement, unlimited ammo, to name a few.

    I believe there is a market for this type of thing (not literal market, but a following) so if there is a good collection of people who would have this desire in common, we should all organize an event or something to just play this type of map/gametype

    Fenix Hulk did try to organize something, but participation was lacking. Maybe it could be boosted up again?

    check out Morpheus below too, because whiel not styled after Quake or Unreal, it is a remake of a Jedi Knight level which was a few years prior to those other games and offered similar gameplay with respect to guns and such.

    I have a trait zone around the whole map that makes you run slightly faster, do a little more damage, and jump a little higher. The jump pads themselves are what REALLY make you bounc around, and it is quite fun.

    This. DM3, from the video I just found on Youtube, has some parts with almost no dancefloor, others with dead ends that would be campy in Halo, and also water.

    A good remake I've been thinking about is the Bootcamp map from Half Life: Opposing Force multiplayer.

    yea and I forgot just how twitchy a player had to be in games like that... ouch on the eyes!

    thank God games have smoothed out since then...

    but we can still make halo more like that w/ faster run etc... but it doesn't need to be THAT fast.

    lol... I like fast too and Quake games are hyperspace thrust. I'd like a gametype and map that gives players speedboost the whole match. hehe.

    run speed 200%? that'll do it. and a trait zone can take care of it so you don't have a chance of someoen playing your map which is intended for it, any other way.

    I like to be a map-**** like that.

    Run speed 200 isn't going to do it. You just can't get the level of precision control on the Xbox because of the nature of the joystick and also because of Halo 4 mechanics ("ice rink" effect). The best it'll do is make it frustrating to get up those narrow pathways. You're probably better off messing with the scaling some and keeping the movement speeds the same. Or at least, that's the conclusion I've come to..

    I do like traitzones for that stuff also. speedboost looks cool though with the trails. I like to be map **** too, lol.

    controllers are just ass for FPS games. Have you tried Quake Arena Arcade on Xbox Live? It looks beautiful but it's unplayable because of the controller. that's one game you just cannot play without a mouse setup. Unreal Tournament III sucks on console too because of that. Halo has the best FPS gameplay for a controller that I ever seen though.

    unfortunatley there is no water ..... I use to love that map...


    From quake 1 quakeworld there was a map that was called H.A.L.O.H (Half a loaf of hellmut) It was a phenominal idea of taking the best rooms/areas of each map in the game and merging them into one big map.


    Infact I found the text file and the map itself for quakeworld... kinda tempted to find my old floppies and load up quake to take some screenshots....

    I have actually starting working on this map with my son. The map is not going to be a direct remake, (especially since there is no water). But I'm going to try and make it playable for a "quake"ish game variant, plus different gametypes such as king of the hill, slayer, etc.

    The map is shaping up. Once I get a "finished" version, I will post it here. I would appreciate community feedback! This is my very first attempt at making a complete forge map.
