My favorite map from Halo: Reach. Awesome aesthetically. I'm a crappy forger. Never made a map (a competitive map that is). So how hard is that to make?
To make it accurately, probably pretty difficult. It has a lot of multi-level structures, curved objects (which are difficult to realize in forge), and particularly that big curved rooftop which is key to the entire map in its size and shape. Then you've got all the natural terrain parts which will be hard to emulate, and probably look kind of ugly however you pull them off.
Check out the Prototype link in my signature, it is heavily inspired by Powerhouse, and could give you ideas of how to make your own?
I've been working on an anchor 9 remake an I've been looking at trying to do powerhouse also. its complicated but Ill prob try because I loved that map so much.
Honestly, none of the stock maps from Reach are worth remaking. None of them. Now DLC ones, Breakpoint was great, and all of the anniversary pack as well (even though those are already remakes). And Tempest was especially fun. I wouldnt mind seeing remakes of those, however impossible it is with forge.
And here, Overdoziz arrives with yet another intelligent and well thought out comment. Thank you sir. The forum is made brighter by your presence.
Hey, I lol'ed. Countdown and Zealot were legitimately good-to-great Halo maps. Powerhouse was alright. Counterpoint: Breakpoint was good for one gametype that no longer exists, and Tempest was an enormous pile of crap that damaged the good name of Standoff, once you realized it was a similar but far-less-thoughtful design.
meh, I honestly disliked Zealot. And thing is, Standoff wouldnt lend itself to dmr at all, Tempest however did.
While Tempest was the best looking map on Reach, I don't think it played very well. I think it might have the potential to play better in Halo 4. As for the other maps, I actually did like Sword Base, and Powerhouse was probably my favorite map. I'm working on a Sword Base remake right now, trying to iron out all the kinks with it's campy design. But I'd appreciate an attempt at Powerhouse if anyone tried.
Found this thread and, now with Halo 5's forge, perhaps we should revisit this. I was talking to my bro, who is the one who got me into Halo, but who isn't a forger and is admittedly intimidated by it. He mentioned that Powerhouse was one of his favorite Reach maps and I have already started and ATTEMPT at it. I have been forging since Reach and have done many remakes. I recently did a nice remake of Uncaged. I think the initial tricky part is trying to find a spot on Alpine with water that'll fit how it flowed through on the original map.
I have actually already gave it a shot. Gave up after 30 minutes when I realized how difficult it would be to make accurately.
Can I ask what part you were trying to figure out how to recreate that made you throw in the forge towel?
The circular catwalk. Creating all the entrances and have it perfectly circular/to scale would be quite difficult.
Isn't there already a Powerhouse remake in forge? Pretty sure that I saw one posted in the map section a while ago and looked pretty good and spot on actually.
I searched yesterday and didn't find one. This thread is what I found. I'll have to check again I suppose. I sure haven't seen any. Thanks
Theres a powerhouse remake by SmoknBrlz64 http://www.forgehub.com/maps/power-outage.1060/#post-1619085
yes, I just found it too. This is why though I personally choose to keep remakes the same name. I appreciate clever renames like Power Outage instead of Power House, but I would like to make it as easy as possible for people to find the map. I remake Uncaged from Reach. I wanted to call it Recaged, but figured it wouldn't show up as easily when people search for it.
