Speaking of, how many maps will be selected from the pool? Good luck, fellas. I ran through the submissions in forge, and the large majority were of excellent design.
The number of rounds will depend on how many participants we get. Could be as many as six or seven, and we'll be needing one map per round.
Some staff members submitted maps but there's no guarantee that they'll be chosen. So yes, the only maps that will be in this contest are the ones that were chosen from the long list of submissions. I can tell you now, this is going to be one tough contest in terms of choosing what maps make it into the contest.
With the submission thread locked, I just wanted to tell everyone good luck in this contest. I've had a ton of fun playing and testing and forging with you all. As I look at this list of 67 entrees, I find that I already am familiar with many of them, and I see many others that I want to become familiar with. I was speaking with some of the other staff yesterday and we were commenting on how great the quality of maps has been lately. I remember in Reach where there was a clear (or so it seemed to nooblet me) divide between good forgers and mediocre/bad forgers. I'm finding that the line doesn't exist so much anymore from what I can tell, and as a result, I would like to point out far more than will ever be in the tournament and push for their entrance into this contest. It's going to be tough narrowing them down, and I'm sure I'll have to fight someone over a submission, but I'm looking forward to it. You guys have provided us with one hell of a selection to pick from, and I look forward to playing each one. So, once again, I wish you all the best of luck. For those who didn't participate in the map portion of this tournament, the sign-ups will be appearing soon enough. Come and sign up to kill your friends on the winning maps when they do. Until then, you can still check out the submission thread to see your competition. Feel free to see the author's posts in the map forums as well. A whole bunch of you (including Dax and myself) rushed at the last few hours to put up the map and some pictures. At least 10 maps went up yesterday for the 2v2 contest. Perhaps more. Probobly more. Thanks again for your support, ForgeHub.
^ This, yes, yes. Need to start up the next tourney map submission here soon! You'll probably get even more map submissions with the release of Forge Island. I'm starting today on my next map. Having this 2v2 Tourney definitely gave me a motive and something to forge around and towards other than something just for w/e. This was truly awesome last two months and made me a better forger and knowing I will be competing with some of the best Halo Forgers in the world. Forging with/against all you guys definitely gives me an edge towards making this my career as I know much more what players want out of a great map. Congrats to everyone who got at least one map submitted and let the best maps win!
We've got something in the works that I'm pretty excited about, but we're just getting down specifics at the moment. Expect to hear something awesome from us in the future, but for now I can't say much. For now, however, let's focus on this tournament.
Well w/e you guys have planned next, you can bet that's where 90% of my forging efforts will be dedicated towards.
If it's what I think you're talking about then I'm pretty excited about it too ;] But Audience nailed it on the head with quality in the entries. There are some truly awesome maps I've played that have gone into this. And I've only played about a third of them up to this point so I'm looking forward to getting on to the rest.
You sure you guys don't want to extend entries by one week to get in some maps on the new forge map. I know I could have a well tested map in one weeks time, probably less. Curb Stomp was forged in 48 hours and tested and edited in a week's time.
OH GOD NO. We already have over 60 entries to test - it's a magnificent mountain that is going to take forever to cull properly. There will in all likelihood be something else right around the corner though, so never fear, Forge Island will be put to good use in very short order.
Last year TCOJ did. a forge contest and had about half as many entries. I wouldn't do that again if you paid me. Lol thats a lie. I totally would.
We've already started on it and suffice to say, it's gonna take a while. I ran a two-hour lobby the other night and we got through maybe 12 maps, and a few of those we're going to want to play again to take another look... so yeah, the effort may be short of Herculean, but only just.
So I know you guys are still probably still balls deep in testing all those map submissions, but I was wondering how its going? Also will you be announcing the maps as the contests progresses? Like round one will use X map then round two X map, or will you announce every map bbeing used beforehand?
I'm [personally] not sure how we'll announce it yet, but I can say that we've tested a good 3-4 tenths of the near 70 submissions. Many are very high quality. I can assure you, just from what we've tested so far, the contest will surely have some superb maps in the lineup.
