yeah, I guess in racing terms this would be called a mechanical error and that is not necessarily the driver's fault (could be) but the race is lost either way... oh well...
I doubt it. From being in parties and watching them play some of the maps including it. I would say it is because of gameplay. Almost solely based on the fact everyone made their maps too small. I am not a judge though and don't want this to be taken as the reasoning.
This is a design competition, and literally not a single element of the design of any of these 3 maps was changed in the slightest. In any case, I don't really understand a community poll for a decision that should be up to the judges.
I don't understand it either. It is just a discussion on whether or not the rules in place should be followed or not. Should we be consistent with what we did in the past or let it slide this time. Orxgen's design wasn't changed. It was disqualified. Pat said that he had maps get disqualified by this in past contests as well. Honestly, no matter what the judges do this should be addressed in future contest write ups to do our best to prevent something like this happening again. Because it always seems to happen.
I agree with @purely fat that this issue should serve as a precedent for similar dilemmas. I have only seen @WeedCough explain his position, and I think it is unreasonable in his case to disqualify him. Plus, his case can be verified by the judges. For the others, I do not know their circumstances, so I only know that they modified their files after the date of submission, which is against the rules set for this competition. However, I only remember this rule out of implication. I may be wrong, but upon re-checking the rules and guidelines for the contest, I do not see where it is explicitly stated that modifications after the due date are forbidden and will result in disqualification (at least for monetary gain). It sounds absurd but it is amazing that the contest rules do not mention this scenario. If this is incorrect, disregard the false information. But going off my observation being correct, these maps should be thrown back into the ring for monetization. And yes, I agree that authors altering submitted versions of their maps, whether it be changing spawns, weapons, etc. after the due date is unacceptable for the people who chose to honor the perceived intent of the judges - getting clean submissions with no further alterations by the author after the due date. This whole issue is being discussed now because the rules do not explicitly handle this scenario, which must change for future contests.
This shouldn't even be a conversation then. DQing a submission from the money when you clearly know they didn't change anything relevant is just grimy.
They were initially allowed a 2 week grace period to fix certain types of things on their maps but later we decided to just give them a full 2 week extension with a new hard submission deadline. It was a notification at the top of forgehub that you manually had to click X on to get rid of it. People knew. I don't remember the exact wording in the notification bar but these are the messages given to nitro when we changed things. "Just update the thread to explain that the grace period is now switched to hard forging time and double down on making sure they don't edit their maps after the final date or they'll be disqualified. I asked war about making an announcement bar on forgehub so that peoplr wont miss the change and he told me to refer to you Nitro, People may miss it if it's only announced in waywo or 1v1 discussion and submission threads." Hopefully it didn't slip through the cracks but i would like to think i did all i could to make sure this was understood by all contestants.
Upon further review after reading the submission thread and guidelines it appears that after we changed the rules, we failed to follow through correctly and explicitly state that modified maps would be disqualified. I now recall that the notification bar also did not state anything other than a new submission deadline. While informal discussions did occur on the topic when it came to both icyhotspatan and xdemptions maps, no formal rule was ever set for this. These discussions could have been easily looked over by a less active contestant. Remember, we had 100+ submissions and a fraction of these forgers check what happens in WAYWO. Disqualifying a map for something no legitimate rule was ever set for feels dirty. Fundamentally we got this wrong. With or without a poll there was no win when deciding how to move forward. Therefore the point of this poll and thread was to allow the community to give their input and to be as open with you all as possible. I feel that was the best method to avoid a fiasco like what occurred during the 2v2 contest. Although the vote wasnt unanimous and we did hear good arguments across the board, the vote definitely was more one sided. With that along with my above statements i think its safe to now confirm that all maps will be treated equally and have full rights to the contests prizes and placement. For reflection it seems easy to organize and prepare ahead for all of these little things but it turns out it wasnt as easy as we thought. Eventually someone will get this all correct from the beginning but this time around it wasnt us. We have made some mistakes with communication internally and externally. This I apologize for. I still personally think this has been handled better than past attempts and i think trello+discord were great tools for us when it came to progression of the contest. Also we tried this new method of judging maps in their best form and ignore bad spawning, weapon choices and extended the deadline in attempt to conclude the competition with the best results for the community and i would like to see the same concept in contests moving forward. Thanks all. I hope youre excited for the results because theyre right around the corner. Also thankyou to my fellow judges @MultiLockOn, @Soldat Du Christ and @Blaze ...+ @Xandrith for like 2 seconds... for the timeframe we managed to do this in even though we have hectic lives.
If “better than the other contests” means the 2v2, I disagree. Nothing wouldve come of the incident had apk not gone into Reddit and started a thread about it. That wasnt a mistake by the judges, as much as it was an intentional decision that was come to after much discussion. This situation, on the other hand, was absolutely a mistake.
I mean, nothing has gone wrong with this contest. The only reason you're only hearing about any of this is because we're choosing to be very public and open about every single one of our choices, the cuts, the feedback, our mentality. We very easily could've just not posted anything and just ran it how we wanted and you would've never known the better, and it still would've been the quickest FH contest by a mile. We just wanted to gather everyone's thoughts before moving forward. There was no mistake here on our end lol
