      seems like i can do the distant LOD, so we can try making islands from heightmaps and seeing how the whole thing looks. However i'm having trouble choosing the right software to make heightmaps with.

      Interesting option we have available; typically for an area like that, you are gong to have an exterior (outside wall) cell and an interior one. Both obviously are still exterior cells, so that cities for example can have weather. However we could have them together if rocks and collisions willed it. Potentially you could jump over the wall from the inside and leave, but to get back you would probably have to go through the interiors.

      Only thing i can't resolve is whether it should be a new game world, which means we should avoid at all cost any distant views and block everything with rock faces, only displaying the sky at like 60 degrees.

      Or whether to try and find a location (there will be many,) and get it to fit. If we can be accommodating enough and make the objects fit the terrain, with only minimal adjustment then that job is much easier, and the effort can be spent making vast and awesome interiors

      Potential? I noticed some missing pieces, due to an intended asymmetry but floor pieces are present so it's nothing that could not be concealed with a few rocks. I would like to do a transition room between this stuff and some cave rock pieces, as repeated break up would keep it varied, also allowing for linkage to whole other sets of objects, like underground fort pieces, nordic or dwemer.

      The ext pieces are not bad either, 4 of them but two together look quite nice, and all of the flooring is clean and accessible. Add a few stairs, overhangs for stalls. If it could have 2-3 entrances, they could branch into a cave network each branching off into even more. 1 small exterior cell could handle it all.
