Someday, perhaps, we can just have forge and Halo discussion without the drama. Apr 8, 2016

Hey, shoe, if you want people in your custom lobbies to help test for the Tester's Guild, I'm open. I don't have the time to actually join and do all of the related stuff :(

Guess we ought to have another recap ready for this Tuesday. Should be just you and Auburn again.

The problem with these videos is that I've always seen them presented in a very non-abstracted way. Showing how something works is great and all, but unless you abstract it (which videos tend not to), you're forcing copying and essentially trying to limit originality. I'm not bashing the idea (I haven't watched them yet), but from what I've seen, there's a huge lack of abstraction that NEEDS to be there. For example, here's some old sketches, and I'm trying to lay out the basic gameplay and put myself through the map. The first one was never made, and second was an early sketch of my MLG Requiem map

See, there's a lack of abstraction in there, because realizing how vital the tiniest difference is is great and all, but without me knowing exactly how I want my gameplay to run, my map will be lucky if it's good, and likely mediocre, no matter how good my mastery of lines of sight or "risk vs reward" might be. That's what I worry about with a guide.

but if there's a good way to do it that you can come up with, I'm more than welcome to work on it. That would involve more than just me, though (especially considering I don't really have a ton of time), so there's things to be considered, let me know if you got anything :p

To be honest, I think the most that needs to be done is change up some examples/pictures to Reach and maybe add a little, unless there was some kind of other possibility (like a video or teach-yourself class). Unfortunately, basically every way I've thought about forces people into my design mindset, rather than let them explore their own, as open as I try to leave it, so I'm not sure how to maintain letting people be themselves as well as help them forward.

      Why gladly, my fellow man.

I have thirteen cents, a button, a dead mosquito, and my lucky fleshlight. Will that suffice?

Alright, thanks for letting me know. I have worked on this map for a long time and I would've hated to completely change it or start over again. I also have one more question. How would I know if my map gets tested by others? I would like to test the map with about 12-16 players to see if the gameplay works out or not.

Do you mean Fantasterrific? Or was that just entirely random?

I am an aspiring level designer with a Halo portfolio stretching back to Halo: Reach. I generally focus on Big Team Battle and 4v4 maps that feature vehicles. Two of my maps, Hitchhiker and Excavtion, were featured in the Forge playlist in Halo 4 Matchmaking.
