      I can't remember if I cried
When I read about sarges powers being set aside,
But something touched me deep inside
      The day the forgehub died.

      I'm amazed.

I heard that book is really a slog to get through. I watched the documentary online and enjoyed it well enough. Actually I'm pretty sure I watched it while I was forging a map in Halo 3.

      No more moderating Sarge?

The sniper rifle was located by the tree in the central atrium. It's leaning right up against it (and even has a spotlight lighting it up for players to see from far away). And I'm replacing the focus rifle with a good ol' fashion rocket launcher to promote player movement in the lower level of the map more. The shotgun and sword are in pretty obvious places, so I'm not too concerned about them, you just have to come across them while they're there I suppose. Thanks for the feedback though! I'll be posting it this weekend (finally) after one last test run with the rocket.

I've heard enough good things about Sagan to assume that if I pursued anything else of his I'd most likely enjoy it.

It's really good to have defined interests, like in your case, because I think for a lot of people reading books seems kind of unapproachable specifically because they have no idea what they want out of it. There's so much really good stuff to sift through, so many classics, so many works of non-fiction bursting with vital information. It's not like video games or movies where you can keep up with it all relatively easily.

So people go into a library or bookstore with no idea what they want because the whole act of reading seems unapproachable, they browse randomly for a bit, get nothing, and end up feeling defeated. Just focusing on something that you want to learn about, or a writer you want to develop a taste for, is a great way of avoiding this sort of "reading paralysis". Just aimlessly floating from book to book is exhausting and not all the engaging.

I really like social and political stuff. Like right now I'm reading a book called Consumed that's, surprisingly enough, all about the evils of consumerism. I also read a lot of blogs and websites, again dealing sociology and politics, but kind of a guilty pleasure of mine is reading about game design. There's a lot of good writing on blogs out there that deal critically with games, and they all link up so you can find a wealth of material.

A good book I suggest to everybody is Carl Sagan's The Demon Haunted World. It's pretty general interest, just dealing with critical thinking, so it appeals to everyone. And the book's also famous for being well written. It just presents a huge amount of information in a way that's very digestible and easy to read.

I do read a lot, just not much fiction. I constantly read non-fiction.

Reading is really an acquired taste. Coffee, running, alcohol, and reading are all things things I group together in my mind. You have to get into them but once you do you love and look forward to them, you can't imagine not having or doing them.

I always suggest to people that they accept one or two books as throwaway books. Just accept that it might be a bit of a slog, and that you'll probably glaze over parts of it, not really taking it all in, but it gets you into a mindset where it's easier to read.

It really is like running to me, you can't just jump into it. You really need to get yourself to a point where reading feels comfortable, and sometimes you have to push yourself there. That's just my two cents.

Just boring computer/IT stuff. It's all really dry and makes me miss interacting with people, kind of the same issue you're having it sounds like.

I too would like to write eventually, more informative blog type stuff though, not fiction. I barely read any fiction, though I try to, to help round myself out.

Writing is very much a hobby though, and I don't expect it to ever support me. Once I have a steady job maybe I'll pursue something there, but I don't expect to earn much from it. Getting like a single article published would be sweet though.

Sure. It actually sounds a lot more fun than just standing by waiting by for someone else to do all the work.

Again, I have no problem with becoming a Guardian : D
