Thanks man congrats to you too, I kinda expected yours to be up at the top. I don't know if you remember my map the Ocho but I have a recreation that I have been working on, you should check it out sometime.

Hey, thanks for the review. Much appreciated.

I figured the contest had something to do with it, as well as why we haven't had any remakes featured yet. Thanks.

Hey, I didn't see a Q&A thread for the Review Hub, so I figured I'd ask you.

Do you guys do reviews on remakes? I only ask because it doesn't seem like the current system would allow it. I think it would be a good idea to come up with a special criteria for remakes. You may be able to simply swap "originality" with "accuracy," since remakes are entirely unoriginal by nature, and accuracy is an important aspect that isn't present in other maps. Anyway, it was just a thought. I figured you might be interested.

I really understand your concern. Unfortunately most people love to look at something appealing. It would have been so different if bungie simply had made entire-object coloring possible, to get rid of that grey feeling it has going. That and perhaps some simple shrubs and small trees would have gone a long way in enhancing Forge's visual appeal.

I know there is a huge difference between SP and MP. Note that we also have produced MP maps as I mentioned.

Obviously Forge has a limited budget, but the principles applied to Sequence can still be applied to larger maps. Note that Sequence is in fact not much larger than maps as say, beavercreek or even MLG Onslaught in scale, supporting my claim that Sequence is a great example in aesthetics for small to medium sized maps/arenas.

Larger maps however really need to use the landscape more in order to stand out visually.

Either way, not much left to discuss I suppose. I'm assuming you won't disregard my opinion and view on this matter as invalid any longer.

Due to 1000 character limit I am splitting this post up in 2 pieces, part 2:

Now, I'd like to see you critique my abilities again.
It should now be clear that I have MUCH more experience in this field. I was the leading role in gameplay and encounter design, and colaberated with artists to create unique interesting gameplay.

Heck we just today got featured on bungie.net front page.

About the Forge: yes our tools are limited. But there ARE maps out there that DO present GREAT aesthetics, like Sequence. That is top quality visuals right there. It is possible with enough effort.

Thank you, and remember: "don't mess with the big boys".

Oh lovely, you brought up the big boy argument!

Well let me tell you this, and show you my actual work.
I work in a Halo Custom Edition mapping team. Together we design and create various multiplayer and single player maps for Halo Custom Edition. We recently (read 26th of november) released our first single player map. The reactions thus fur are great. We are honored by almost everybody as the best custom single player level so far, meeting gameplay that matches what bungie would deliver and even surpasses it.

You can find more of my/tm's work at:
Project Lumoria mod for Halo: Combat Evolved - Mod DB

And if that weren't enough we stand a very good change of getting nominated in the top 100 of best mod of the year!

Higher standards and neglecting another important aspect of a map don't go well together, my lesser minded friend :-)

I can also see the design of a map and appreciate it. However my standards are SO high that I ALSO require appealing visuals. Oh and believe me, I have a very good comprehension of great map design.

For a map reviewer your standards are rather low. Neglecting aesthetics is an amazing flaw for someone who should be judging a map in it's entirety. It is that kind of attitude in fact, that is wrong with the forging community.

      Re: Map posting review thread.

Hey, I have a question regarding the Map testing thread in the testers guild. Do you guys only test games that use default gametypes? I want some feedback and testing down on my gametype & Map Sky High on Bereavement , but I'm not sure if posting it in your thread is appropriate.

Also, is there any means of client feedback on reviews?

Also, I would like to see an addition to the criteria for a comment about the design itself. While 'design' affects each part of the criteria, I don't think each individual component addresses the importance of design or provides for a way to improve design as a whole.

It's just a thought, so take it lightly.

I'd like to suggest that when a review has been completed some sort of system should be in place letting the other reviewers know that a map has already been taken care of. I think the request thread should be left almost entirely as it is for purpose of keeping a record of it, but I think a header bar could be edited into the post once a map has been reviewed to avoid confusion. (It would be really cool if the header linked to the review, so that the other reviewers could review the review.)

The header would be great considering it offers a quick visual cue that the map has been reviewed both for the reviewers perusing the maps to be reviewed and the client to check whether his/her map has been reviewed. I guess think it over, something simple would work fine, like a header that said 'reviewed'. You might ask chrs if you can steal the headers he used in the update.

      Like a signature rotator?

      Random Sig - http://randomsig.caiyern.net/

      -Easy to upload and manage
-Somewhat small filesizes, but it works great
-You can specify how often it rotates, upon load, daily, weekly, or monthly.

Also, you can use this link to shorten your URL's to get the most out of the 1000 character limit on forgehub:
