To be honest, I've never used the 720's. As far as I understand, they're a stereo, wireless version of the AX Pro?

You may want to try messing with the cable that goes between the controller and the headset (if it's anything like the AX Pro). That part can get kind of weird when you first get the headset and seemed to go away after I stretched the cable and such.

Yeah, the optical cable gives you much better sound than anything else. I assume you have an optical port on your 360, so you should be good to go. Yeah, the cable is included. Maybe the only thing I'd do ahead of time is clean up any wires, open some areas for power, and set aside an area for it...with all the wires, it can get a little clumsy and you might as well have a good start on that. Other than that, it all comes in da box.

Oh, the quality is quite good. I guess I'm a little less impressed by quality since I've used some real audiophile headphones like Sanheiser 555 and some Bose stuff, but you could ask Roche or Amercan about that kind of thing for their take. IMO it's breakable, clumsy, and a little heavy, but you get some great surround options that just doesn't sound the same to me with a simulated. A40 has some really great speakers, quality-wise...Trittons are pretty good.

Personally, I like the Trittons, because I just sit at home and they're in an area where they can't really get broken easily. To me, there's no reason for a MixAmp, and I'm fine with having it heavier and more clumsy considering I get real adjustable surround

By the way, when I'm talking about using the Astros at an event, I should mention that you can't use Trittons at all usually. There's a rule against using power in MLG, so you won't be able to use them, even if you were just playing by yourself. So you should decide how far into MLG you're trying to get into...if you're going to participate in an event you don't want to have to have spent the money on a different headset.

Honestly, I don't know why they have such crazy praise. I'm guessing it's the whole thing when people buy expensive things. The audio quality is nice, sure, but nothing super special.

Anyway, what I'm saying in essence is that the Tritton have superior surround, because it's real surround with 8 speakers (4 in each ear), and those speakers can be individually adjusted. However, the sound QUALITY of the speakers isn't as good as the Astros. It's pretty decent, but I consider quality to be low on my list of importance personally, unless you're using them for uber-expensive headphones to listen to music to, where IMO the Trittons are just fine, but...anyway. Yeah. Astros have better sound quality, and worse surround. Both are good at each, but one is great in each area. I think the main deal is if you're going to events and what you think is more important in sound audio quality vs. surround sound quality.

No problem on the questions, I quite enjoy it personally

Well, that's really the difference as I said before. The reason you'll need it for events is that at a good event (like MLG events), you will plug in your MixAmp and then you daisy-chain them together for the whole team...that gives you a private chat channel, which is awesome in a LAN. The AX Pro isn't really good if you're going out to events, if it can get broken (though they'll fix it for free), or if you can't handle a ton of wires and power, but it will give you a real surround solution, which is also customizable, unlike the others (like, mine is set up so that the back and center channels are louder, and I've toned down the bass. Helps me head stuff behind me better).

      Which one are you getting?

It's decent, I guess. It's about the same on the X41 as the Astros in terms of simulated...you kind of get some pinpoint accuracy, but it's not all that great. Main reason they use em at MLG events is because they're nice and comfy, great sound, and they don't need a power plug (?? Not sure why that rule is there in the first place...). You'll kind of get a sort of sense that there's something behind you, but it's not the same as real surround.

Most stereo TVs try to do some kind of stereo surround, too. It's obviously not to the same degree, but that should kind of give you an idea of how it works.

      To make it pretty simple:
-TB X41: Wireless solution, simulated surround
-Tritton AX Pro: Real surround, fairly easy to break
-A40: if you go to LANs or any serious events, you'll need em. They have the best audio quality and are hard to break, however you won't get real surround, it's simulated.

So, it's really a choice of which you think is most important and fits you
