      Curious...

What do you mean "old enough"? What if you said that to a cop when they asked you how old you were??

      I'm okay.
      Hey, how old are you?

Soooo...try to figure out the lines of sight. Pit is a great example, and there's often these little things that you don't notice unless you really look (like how you can shoot from the S ramp to needles...look for it :P)...these things are probably the most important, so try to get a good grasp on em. Bbl.

Example on Guardian: green is one of the places with the most lines of sight, but generally closed off so you can be easily defeated. This area makes it great for holding an area or helping your team. You can see top mid, plasma pistol, bottom green, blue window, S3 (might've missed some, trying off memory). You can be attacked from someone you didn't see going along a blocked line of sight, though (like going along bottom mid, the first time you'll see him if you're somehow watching down there is at the plasma pistol, at that point you'll already be in trouble). Green is a powerful line of sight area, opposed to more enclosed areas that encourage closer range weapons and less lines of sight (blue room), or areas with few lines of sight but supremely useful if it fits in (bottom mid, S1, bottom gold).

Lines of sight are probably one of the hardest to get right. IMO the way I feel like I understand it is that I loaded up a bungie map (any given map is good, the MLG ones particularly because their long ranged based) and you see where you can shoot and where you can be shot from from any given area. Realizing how much Lines of Sight you should be blocking or opening depends on the map, look at a bunch of the default ones to see how they vary to the map and area. Anyway, drawing it out gets a little more complicated with elevation because elevation gives you the high advantage. Therefore, that needs to be balanced with everything else already mentioned (risk vs. reward, maybe blocking off some extra LoSs, maybe limiting paths that you could run away to or access easily)...I don't think there's any easy way to do it, but just try drawing out your flow, RvR, path manipulations, and Lines of Sight (probably on seperate sheets or you'l have stuff everywhere).

Hey, got like 10 mins on a computer so figured I write something...in a way map designing is like a puzzle and you put all the pieces together...in another you need to figure out a bunch of stuff all at the same time. Alot of this stuff just kinda fits into each other, too.

Flow is probably the most important, we've gone over that, it determines where people go, how easy it is to do that, what players reactions are to that route, etc.

Path manipulation works basically the same, youre taking your flow routes and manipulating them to what you want. If you wanted more people to head to that area, you might put a good weapon or good hold area, good line of sight, whatever. Of course this needs to be balanced with risk vs reward, which is usually at varying degrees of each to make an interesting map. For example, rockets on Pit are high risk/high reward, spikers are fairly low risk/reward...you could kinda classify it with grades (A, B, C, etc) if you're backwards engineering it.
