Ya, the headset alone is $200 and then the MixAmp is $130 so a grand total of $330. I was a little skeptical about buying these because of these price jump but I got to looking more and you can buy them as a set for $250 saving you $80. Also you should probably get the optical cable as well, I got the 6 footer but really didn't even need that since my Amp is sitting right next to my xbox. It has better sound because it takes it directly from your xbox and you don't have to deal with more cords.
The only problem I saw with the headset is all the cords, but if you zip tie the excess it looks a whole lot better and way less messy.

I don't really play LAN much either. Aside from that they work really well. They probably work the best in CoD, but I enjoy them in Halo just as much. They change the sounds of basically everthing. You can hear footsteps, and people zooming in with scopes. The first time I got in a ghost was pretty amazing, it sounded so much different.
The microphone is really clear and I love how you can change the volume of the voices relative to the game volume via the Amp. I'm glad I bought them because the mic picks up your voice really well and you don't have to have the tv cranked up to get that surround sound. I haven't used any other headsets though.
Hope this helps in choosing the right headset.

EDIT: One more thing...If you're not a competetive gamer I don't really see a point in buying them. I don't know if you are or not, just saying.
