Indeed. The problem with mid range is that it's often hard to define, generally being a shift by opponents from long range to short range or the other way around. You could talk about this though, how the Carbine's vulnerability to certain short range weapons (shotguns, needlers kinda, swords and hammers sometimes etc.) means you should always be ready to change weapons when it's needed and you have time. Whipping out the carbine on a retreating enemy who's going from mid to long range is a good way to get that fleeing kill, and using the carbine on an approaching enemy then putting away when they get too close (maybe take out an AR or something) is a good option to think about.
