Elseworlds comes up with some pretty awesome stuff for sure. Loved Kingdom Come and The Golden Age. There was a pretty awesome JLA one as well, but I can't think of the name. I'll have to look and see if I still have it.

There's another series that you might enjoy, which pretty much parodies groups like the JLA and The Avengers. It's called The Authority, and the first two trades are brilliant. There are two characters "modeled" after Superman and Batman, and they are...well, I don't want to spoil it. Just get the first couple, after Frank Quietly's art run on it.

Kirkman reminds me of James Robinson's work on Starman, witty but serious and dramatic. Another damn good read. His writing on The Golden Age lured me over to Starman, and I was far from disappointed.

lol, those were going to be my next recommendations, actually. I haven't finished either series, but they're both awesome so far. Kirkman is one of my favorite current writers along with Brian K. Vaughn. You should check out Ex Machina as well.
