Once again, capitalist pig :D. You have no soul, much as it may work to your favour in some situations, it will not aid you here.

Oh get you. Dedication and bloodymindedness is key here, and I challenge you to out-care-about-MLG-way-too-much me on this.

I'm not sure tbh. I have this memory of Fritz's FH avatar being him holding a massive novelty cheque from MLG, so I think you might, but that's the only indication tbh. It'd be nice I'll admit, but I doubt it's too much in the long run, and by far the best part would be seeing my map played on the Pro Circuit.

Lol, pretty much. I doubt it'll come to fruition, but I've always spoken fondly with guys like Baron and Kon Artist, both of whom make a mean MLG map. I think I'll be able to get decent opinions on stuff even if the KC plan doesn't work out. Tbh my highest aim in Forging would be to get a map on the Pro Circuit. Hardly likely, but something to shoot for, and I'm willing to spend as much time on one map as others would on 10 to really refine it, and to throw it away and start again if it doesn't work out. I just wants in, and I'd love it to be with a Hill map.

Hell no, not even close. I don't really know anyone over on the MLG Forums apart from people who are here as well, peeps like Ivory and Squid. Although both of them are well known over there with good reason, so hopefully I'll be able to worm my way in and get some close to expert opinions when it comes down to it.

      Lol, indeed!

      "Shock... haaaaaaalp...."

I have some vaaaague hope that I'll somehow be able to get Killa KC's opinion, the dude who actually makes and decides on the gametypes for MLG. If MLG were ATLAS, KC would be Shishka. If I somehow manage to get his opinion on what I need to do to nail spawns then it would be a massive help, gonna try and work with people over here who are in on the MLG Forge forums to get some opinions from over there as well. This one is super cereal.

Bah, useless! I'm sure I'll be able to work it out. I've never really used sketchup for a project either, familiar with it in basic terms and I know what it can do, so I wana utilise that and really get this down as much as possible before building, I don't want to have to be making decisions and redesigns during the build if I can avoid it, especially if it's just because my mind doesn't quite match up to the reality of SB objects.

But it shall be done. Then I have to learn a) how to spawn, then b) how to spawn for MLG. Fun...

That's pretty much what I'm thinking. If I could get this damn SB sketchup file to load without crashing sketchup itself (my Mac is a little underspeced for such things) then I'd be able to plan it out properly. Do you know if there's any way to grab components out of a sketchup file without opening the file itself? Having the SB components would make the biggest difference considering I'm only using the sky bubble and could just use a blank sketchup to plan.

      You know the score:

      Pt.I

Construct was my main base to work off, but this idea is tending away from the V shape of hill movement, high at each end and low at the point, that works in Construct. Instead its going end to end, middle low, 2 ends higher, with a central high point higher than all else. Based off the basic end to end nature of narrows, but squashed end to end and with more side paths to stop it being too end-to-end.

Pit plays quite well, but (much as I love any MLG game on Pit), it was removed from v6 for a good reason. The 2 side hills were just a guaranteed rack up of time for each team unless the other team really dominated them on spawn. That said, the middle hill placement being forced under sword ramp was good, but not great considering, too swingy and dominated by snipe tower/training area and leaving long hall (mm rocket hall) out of the mix too much.

      Pt.II

That's basically what I'm keen to avoid, I don't want the a and b side hills to be a no go for the opposing team. Obviously each team should have an advantage when the hill is on their side of the map, but side paths should be balanced to make it possible for a competent team to grab decent amounts of time even when the hill is on the opposing side.

      I will, I will, geez...

I'm hoping this one will turn some heads, the whole principle came out me thinking hard on the basic idea of what makes a good hill map for MLG settings. I'd be interested in hearing what you think once it gets to a stage where I can show people, even if you do falsely accuse me of gibberish whenever I get onto a MLG rant.

Are there any maps in particular that you think play hill really well? Bearing in mind that this has to be built about a 3 hill principle with mid-a-mid-b as an order, I'm keen to get ideas on what to shoot for with the gameplay mechanic and Hill has so little to go on in that sense.

Oh, and 3 maps? I laugh at your optimism.

      Pegasi
Oh lolololol. I shouldn't laugh so much, I've spent most of the time since I finished the basic design I spoke of last night thinking about tweaks and interesting additions to the sketch. This one doesn't involve so much insane building so high off the sky bubble floor, so hopefully I shouldn't get so discouraged after about object 5. I really think it could work ya know, and if I can do it then a really good MLG Hill map is a hole that needs filling, especially since Pit Hill got taken out of the rotation.

Indeed, definitely better looking imo. And kewl, playing with interwebz is fun ain't it?

I find underscores ugly tbh. If you'd prefer to keep the separation then I always think dashes look better, but overall I still prefer all one word as an aesthetic choice.
