D I S T R I C T 9 __________________________________________________________________ District 9 is a huge new project I will be working on. No, this isn't a map, nor a game-type, but the unofficial game of the movie. What I mean by this, is that there will be two "Game modes". Story Mode and Multiplayer mode. New map packs will be released and posted on forge-hub as they are made, and can be downloaded as "DLC". With multiple game-types, modes, and multiplayer maps, hopefully this project will be worth the work. --------HOW IT WORKS-------- Using mostly one sided VIP, District 9's game-types allow separate traits for "Prawns" and the military of "MNU". Choose a team, and play "DeathMatch", "Escort", "Rush", and many more. Or, play "Missions" in story mode. How? If you've seen the film, you know that two main characters, Christopher and Wikus, must actually raid an MNU base, and retrieve a fuel-like substance called the fluid, and then get the heck out. I plan to recreate this by having everyone but two people on the same team, and if the VIP of the smaller team, (Christopher) dies, then MNU wins. If the small team can get to a destination point deep inside the building, then get out, they win. Scenes like this will be reenacted in the game. Because none of this has actually been started on, I'll leave this thread as-is. Pics up soon!!! Comment please! ~Izano Slayer~ If you haven't seen District 9, here are some trailers. Sounds like a pretty cool idea, I could see this working out. But of course Wikus and Christopher get the better alien weapons right?(sentinel beams, fuel rod cannons, ect)
Oh, yeah. They have more damage resistance, and the hi-tech Prawn weapons. I'm also thinking of a mech level.....
I'm interested in your gametypes. Could you elaborate a little on those more? I've been looking for more gametypes for my next ODST map pack, but can't think of anything. maybe I could implement one of your ideas into my maps. I'll give you credit of course.
Alright. In one-sided VIP, you can set traits for defenders, attackers, and the VIP. This gives you 3 sets of traits to use, and so it is very useful. If you haven't seen District 9 yet, this will be hard to explain. If I was using a "Story Mode" Gametype for example, I would make the MNU military the attackers, and set traits, weapon spawns, and the likes accordingly. If I was acting out a mission when only Wikus and Christopher are against the MNU, the VIP would be Christopher. He would have different traits, forced color, and damage resistance to mach up to his movie abilities. Wikus would be the only defender (because Christopher is using VIP traits), so his traits are set more... human-ish. In Multiplayer, unless the game is meant to do so, the vip would share the traits of his teammates, and the defenders (Prawns) would have differing traits from the MNU (defenders). Scoring would be just like team slayer, so the VIP has no effect on gameplay.
Damn! this is what i was going to do after i finished my current project! While your ideas sound about the same as mine, i might still do mine. good luck and i hope it turns out good!
Well it was a matter of time before someone tried this. So I hope this will be good or you disgrace the D9 name. Also what maps will you be making this on? Slums-Foundry City-Sandbox
I'd recommend that you make the gametype so that Christopher and Wikus can pick up weapons, but MNU can't, they just spawn with BRs and ARs. Make sure you make the MNU facility really detailed and accurate to the movie. If you take your time with this map it could easily turn out to be feature-worthy.
Yes... but I unfortunately I can't go see the movie again, because the school year just started (No, I am Not 11) and I am just bogged down with work. When it's out on DVD, I'll BUY the thing and get some real nerdiness going on...
