Support Bungie.net : Halo: Reach Forum

Poll is at link, here's a copy for those that don't feel like following links.

For Halo reach, assuming it is a First-Person-Shooter level type game, I believe that you should be able to model your level on the computer and then texture it to your liking. The only problems I can think of so far are; how much space would a custom model and texture take up? If it was alot I think bungie could but like a 8 megabyte size limit for the amount of memory the entire map would take. After modeling the level and creating your textures you would import it all into a program created separately that would be downloadable via the Internet and bungie.net. If we were really lucky bungie could even give us access to switches and game physics potentially allowing us to mod the blam! out of it, instant endless replayability. Bungie could have a system where the most popular maps are considered into a community playlist. So many possibilities for this game, I hope they don't waste it.

Discuss. Will update with more ideas.

Vote in the poll at bungie.net!

    Uhh...

That would be pretty cool but rather tedious and long to get anywhere.

That's called life. You put effort in and you achieve things as a result. The greater the challenge the greater the work you need to put in... and the more people can't be bothered and aren't motivated to achieve anything.

I think it'd be great if they had a more professional editing platform for the community, but it's only feasible if it was being released on PC. Maybe I'm not understanding you right though - do you want to discuss the specifics of the level editor in Halo Reach (if any), or do you want to discuss the stylistic choices bungie themselves are likely to make, and how people want to see the combat style developed from previous games?

You mean like Halo: Combat Evolved, and Halo 2 for the PC had? Those were more of a map creating program than an editing program though. I was kind of hoping that whenever Bungie gets around to releasing Halo 3 for the PC that they include a map creator program like in Halo 2, but sense we have the file share thing now, they could allow us to transfer our custom made maps to our Xbox 360's. Maybe it's just me, but it seems possible. Just like Far Cry 2, I was also kind of hoping it would add the map to like a custom map library sitting next to the default maps library, and that you could take a picture of it as the main picture whenever you're viewing it. But of course this would be very difficult to do if at all possible, and if possible I'm sure Bungie wouldn't do it.

But back on the topic of a level design for Halo Reach. If Halo Reach turns out to be an FPS, I'm hoping Bungie does a forge mode again, but they don't make it a map editor, but of course a level designer like the forge they use. I'm going to end up saying the same thing people have been saying for awhile now, but I'm hoping they either make it like it was on the PC version of Halo 2, or like Far Cry 2. Far Cry 2's map creator was so amazing, and it would be possible for Bungie to have this in Halo Reach. It's just that Bungie won't... If at all possible I'm hoping for placeable AI at least. AI is what I want the most...

Well, if it is based on First Strike, the level design will have to be Avalanche plus Valhalla plus all Sandbox areas plus Sierra 117 plus Sandtrap. Then there's a 3 Kilometer long ship that Master Chief and his team fought in, and the Mountain ONI Base which is inside a huge mountain, plus a ton of hallways and a small weapon locker, plus a 3 kilometer room that would be it's own map. 'D be ****ing great for Forge and ForgeHub, though. And the campaign would have around 14-20 people working in teams of 3-7 composed of Spartans and humans. Though those 3 map designs I said, they'd be in Campaign. Multiplayer would have two teams composed of 30 players, for the main playlist.
