Sandy Slopes A Rocket Race course complete with hills, banks, bridges, and, of course, dunes. YouTube - Sandy Slopes: A Halo 3 Rocket Race Course A quick tour. YouTube - Halo 3 Minigame Map - Sandy Slopes Overview and gameplay courtesy of HaloEvolution Firstly, to all those whose first thought is "So much for being retired from forge", hear this. I had put more hours than you can imagine into this map before I had run into the problems that caused my forging leave. I had done so much that had turned out great, and I just couldn't let that go to waste. So you can either try to enjoy the map, or get pouty over me going back on previous statements. Your call. I would like to give a huge thanks to Cheerful Dub, who re-introduced me to Rocket Race. I always had so much fun playing Rocket Race with his parties, and that is what inspired me to start this project. A few things to know about the map. Firstly, it is very boost friendly. Almost all the checkpoints can be boosted to without taking the normal path. Secondly, the bottom middle checkpoint area acts as a kind of speed bump. If you hit it full speed, you can lose control. Also, beware of the crypt hole. And lastly, I created the checkpoints with callouts in mind, so use them to your advantage. Moving on to the pictures: Bottom Mid Top Mid Blue Hill Red Hill Blue Bridge Red Bridge Bank Dune Gutter Action Shots: Spoiler Special thanks to all that helped with the completion of this map. Whether it was motivation, brainstorming, or testing, I appreciate everything everyone did. I hope you enjoy my map! Rocket Race Sandy Slopes
haha i just tested this map. it was a bunch of fun; i really couldn't find anything wrong with it. good to see youre still forging.
nice map dude ill give this a dl, i need rr gametype as well tough. Auwsome smooth tracks and good flow as well. Loveit
This isn't a Racetrack subforum, it's one for Race Maps. Rocket Race maps, while not racetracks, certainly are race maps.
Very nice. Smooth turns and very nice geo merging. Fro mthe looks of this it seems that the map seems to play very well... Center area seems to be the only place with aesthetics, i would add a bit me but non the less the map good.
That looks soooo awesome, Sishka (sorry if spelled wrong man) should really put this one up in the next rocket race double exp, it would be awesome, there's probably no single bump at all and the two smaller bridges are perfectly symmetrical, this should most definatly be a feature. btw, could you please put up the rocket race gametype, for people who don't have it momentarely, including me, recommending it to me would do as well (gamertag: 'The Persister'), great forging, can't wait to see more. whoops: "could you please put up the rocket race gametype", sorry my eyesight is getting rusty at night' ;D 2 o'clock here, sorry for that one, thx anyway.
I played a game on this right after you posted it, and I was very impressed. Gameplay on this map was simply amazing. I found nothing wrong with it. We played with 3 teams, with a very close game in the end and a victory in my favor. One thing though, I really saw no point in you not covering up the crypt hole at bottom mid. We did cut through there once, but never did again because we died...
I touched on this a bit in the description. That area is meant for players to take with caution. There is a slight chance of falling in the hole if you are not careful. It's not that risky, just an added feature to tweak gameplay at that spot and keep racers on their toes.
Damn Shadow lol making me want to finish my map but I'm lazy oh if you could but can you show me how to geomerge perfectly because I don't really know a good way to geomerge on maps beside foundry.
nice map preety smooth yep i fells a bit small for a RR map maybe if it was no gards and did a bit of forgeing out of map but nice job
God, this is so sexy. My friend loaded it up, and I seriously WTFed at seeing what looked to be an actually good sandbox rocket race map. I was greatly pleased to see that your aesthetics have added to gameplay a great deal as well. The map is simple, but beautiful at the same time.
It takes a game to figure out where to go after each checkpoint because they are pretty random compared to other maps similar to this, that means it's extremely confusing when playing in a party with people who havent played it yet. And you know people instantly hate it if they have no clue what they are doing. They hate it even more when you try and explain it to them like they are 5 years old... But since I took that extra game to play it I liked it. The vid makes it seem very simple so please no one judge the post just by that. Shaddo, your just a really good driver
Just give it a couple games so you get a feel for the map and can more readily recognize where the checkpoints are. Also, make use of the callouts. If you're the VIP, let your driver know where the checkpoint is so he doesn't have to look for it himself and lose valuable time. And the video isn't meant to portray gameplay. It's just to give an added perspective of the map. Thanks for the comments and input everyone.
I didn't find the map confusing at all. The hills under the bridge almost seem like they are on the bridge, but you figure it out very quickly. Anyway, I loved this. It's not trying to add too much stuff like some RR maps, but it's not too simple either. This is one of the few "Race Maps" that I'll be keeping.
A must download for anyone who likes rocket race. This should be in matchmaking, I hope it gets featured or Bungie'd!
I love how the best path isn't really obvious, and that you have to figure it out as you go. To me, that's one of the best things about race maps, and you've got it nailed. Definitely downloaded.
The map is beatuful, Shaddo. Definitely one of the better RR maps Ive seen on Sandbox, though I do have some qualms with it. I feel teams are too restricted to very specific paths. It really turns RR's non-linear style in a completely different direction, and while I do enjoy the map, Im not so sure it captures that traditional RR style all that well. Im not sure what you could do to improve that without a major re-design, which I wouldnt recommend, as what you have now is both still fun and absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks for the input. I knew during the development stages of this map that it was going to stray from the norm, but I hoped that it would still be enjoyable and provide adequate gameplay. I wanted something that would catch peoples' eye and bring in a greater population of Rocket Race fans to the Halo community. So even though this does not provide the best RR gameplay, it intrigues people to the point that they will try other, better RR maps and, maybe, just maybe, they will find that they enjoy it.
