    YouTube - Jonathan Quail[Halo 3]

I found this video a while back and I think it is one of the most well put together Machinimas I have ever watched. If you have seen it Id like your take on it. If you havent seen it before Id like to see if you liked it or not. It is 30 minutes long its more of a short film but its definatley worth the watch.

I watched this a while back and actually thought it overrated.

Most shots are well constructed, but others are just horribly made, wide sweeps when close camera angles would be more effective, etc.

Overall the plot seemed to take itself too seriously, though the end reveal is pretty awesome.

I thought the cat and mouse scenes were kind of monotonous and went on a bit too long. Also the camerawork seemed super cliched in some parts, but I didn't think it was all that bad. And yes, the reveal is pretty cool. So those scenes where the creature is getting blown to **** are just in his head though right? Unless his mental illness made him invincible somehow.

Holy crap it's long, but there's no denying that it was quite well-done. There was a good build-up of suspense, though I agree that some segments went on for too long. I must also note that clicking on a YouTube video and finding out it's 30 min long is a bit of a turn-off.

From a story telling standpoint, it's okay. I saw the end coming since we first met Jonathan Quail, and so the ending twist wasn't all that special to me. There were alot of moments where nothing was happening, and like Sarge said, it just made the plot seem to take itself too seriously. Then there are the unanswered questions, such as why he was on Last Resort. With all that said, the story was average. It didn't blow me away, it wasn't bad either.

From a technical aspect, well this is very mixed. The cinematography, for example, was either very good, or very bad. The hornet scene, for example, and some truly amazing shots, but then it would cut to one that ruined the entire feeling. The editing wasn't the best part of this, since lots of times I got the wrong kind of pacing out of it. There were alot of jump cuts, which means that they could have arranged their shots a little better. But where the editing was needed the most, it failed. These were the "jump factor", trilling moments. The setup built up to these moments just fine (though at times too much), but the "shock" wasn't there when you reached the sting. This could be attributed to many things, such as the extremely close and impossible to see shots. But in the end, it was the editing, which resulted in harsh cuts that grabbed your attention rather than what was happening in the shot. To end on a good note about the editing, though, I thoroughly enjoyed the "text-talking" parts (though like the cinematography, at times the editing of such wasn't as glorious as previous moments).

So overall, it was decent. It seemed like they stretched parts out just to meet the 30 minute mark in the end, instead of telling a compelling story within those moments. It had the makings for a great story, but in the end it just didn't reach the potential it had.

I do like your and Sarges reviews I can see how it does come off as slow starting and strung out. I think it was to build suspense which lead up to a scene's climax but some more editing definitely could have made this picture better. I like it for its story mostly and some of the action scenes. The inner demon theme is really cool and how they portraid that by making him fighting the elite was pretty unique. I liked most of the camera angles the only one I thought was kind of dumb was the one where his demon shoots down the hornet with his dragon breath lol. Other than that its was good IMO. Thank you guys for taking the time to watch the whole thing and make a review. :]
