I have it all written down. Username: admin, password: admin I never changed either. Now suddenly it won't let me into the router. It says that I have the wrong username/password when I belatantly don't. So is there any way to hack around this bullshit because it appears someone else already has for this to have happened in the first place. Help? I only wanted to forward my ports because my torrents are really slow all the time...
There should be a small hole somewhere on the router (probably on the back panel), big enough to fit a pin in. If you push one in and hold it for a few seconds then it should totally reset your router, instead of just doing a power cycle which is what most people call a reset, this will take it back to factory settings with the username and password the same as they were when you got it (generally admin and admin on most routers). But be warned, this totally resets your router to factory settings, meaning that if it didn't work right out of the box then it won't work after you do this, and you'll have to repeat the initial set up process now. EDIT: Exactly how this happened is odd though, it could well be that someone jacked on to your wi-fi and changed the router password (not the wi-fi password), always a danger when you leave the password set to default since it's pretty much always admin. Could someone in your family have changed it? If not then you might want to check the list of devices that accessed via wi-fi and see if there's a device IP that doesn't correspond with the computers in your house. You also might want to consider changing the wi-fi password from what it was before when you set it up again, otherwise that same person could just come back and do the same thing, if this is indeed what happened (as well as changing the router password itself, but that goes without saying after this).
Ask parents if they changed it. Try Admin1 for both of them. So see if it is UN: Admin PW: Admin1 UN: Admin1 PW: Admin UN:Admin1 PW: Admin1 Try all those combos.
Uhm, the username is admin but leave the password feild blank. They most always are. I would call your router manufacturer if that doesn't work.
Both very true in general, but seeing as he used to be able to get in to it with admin and admin, but can't now, it does seem as if there's been some foul play.
On the router it says the username and password are both admin. But it also says the URL for the router is 192.168.1.1 whereas it is actually 192.168.0.1. And no-one in my family has changed it. Also, leaving the password field blank results in it just prompting me to enter the password. I have a WEP password though, wouldn't that stop hackers?
Like I said, contact your router manufacturers, state your problem and they will help. They have methods to go around these sort of things.
Information you will need about DSL-2640B Username This is the Username needed access the Router’s management interface. When you attempt to connect to the device through a web browser you will be prompted to enter this Username. The default Username for the Router is “admin.” The user cannot change this. Password This is the Password you will be prompted to enter when you access the Router’s management interface. The default Password is “admin.” The user may change this. Just added that for clarification.
Saying WEP is secure is like saying that Fox News is a reputable source for factual information. Stick to WPA, people. It's not dead yet.
When/if you do get back in make sure you use the better protection. If you want to see how insanely easy it is to hack into WEP, read this. This may also help you after you get your router back.
WPA2 doesn't work for Xbox 360s in the UK. But yeah, my WEP password is only 5 characters too, so I'll change it to WPA... When I can change it, that is >.>
