Through the days, there has been a considerable change in the way we play Halo. In present day, we must have a million counters for each and everything that could be considered a threat. The only safe way to make sure your map will please the mass audiences is to place a thousand Battle Rifles around the map, and make sure your single power weapon is at 180 respawn time. Im not sure where along the lines this became the accurate way to look at things, but Im on a mission to prove that this fact is the very reason many people dont even find Halo entertaining anymore.

Before you is a "remake" of the Halo 2 classic, 'Zanzibar'. "Well, we already have a remake, its called Last Resort... duh". I have to tell you just how different this map really is than Last Resort. Sure, you could be direct and lash out with "You only moved around weapons, 1/5". The weapon layout is entirely different to be honest. Im talking like almost nothing stayed in the same place. The only thing thats missing from the original is the Wraith, and thats because Bungie disabled the option to place one on the Last Resort Canvas.

So download this, get a party together, throw on SMG starts or BR/SMG starts and let loose in the Gauss Hog.

    Recommended Gametypes:

    • Team Slayer [smg or br/smg starts]
    • One Flag [smg or br/smg starts]
    • Team Execution [click to download]

Not much in the way of spectacular forging, or anything like that, but I will definitely give this a download because I miss the good old days of four person split screen on here. Not to mention everybody loves driving the Gauss Hog :)

Yeah, splitscreening on this was always a blast. However, I'd like to know if you changed anything other than the weapons. Did you block off the catwalk from Froman to the base to make it more like Zanzibar? Did you do anything inside the base to make it more like the original? Just wondering.

In all honesty, without the proper forging tools, I wasnt feeling up to the task of blocking off the catwalk. No one really went up there during the testing though if thats any consolation. Im not looking for a medal for what I did with the map, I am just sharing with everyone something that has been well recieved in my custom games. Anyone couldve done this, but I saved you all the trouble.

I did block off the inside of Camp Froman, and mildly just set up some crates inside the base. Nothing geometric really was completely altered. The weapons are all pretty exact, as I own the guide for H2, and I ran around for hours on Zanzibar before doing this.

    You all have two options:

Download and enjoy for what it is

    or

Ignore it because it isnt a super overforged new map

There was a Gauss hog on Zanzibar? I cant remember it. Its a shame because the factory cannot be completely replicated. You should do something about the gate- fill the gap with scenery such as crates and when someone opens the gate, the crates fall over- this would make the classic bar-gate from Halo 2......sorta....
I would also attempt to block the catwalk to the factory- maybe just put a ton of containers across it or something if you have enough. Just because it didnt make a difference in playtesting doesnt mean it wont affect gameplay.
But I could see this making its way into matchmaking as an HC Last Resort

I just NOSTALGIA'D. I am definitely going to download this one. People nowadays focus to much on "interlocking and merging" and not enough on what is really important, good gameplay. Hopefully this remake stays true to the Original.

I will download this and get back to you with some feedback. Until then, I must say this: "ZANIZEEBAR FTW!"

As much as hardly ever played halo 2 this feels and plays just how I remember it to play. Loved play testing it, and I honestly felt the Zanzibar weapon layout plays better than the Last Resort one. Thanks for bringing back good memories ;)

This was actually alot of fun testing. The only problem was that I was too used to Last Resort that I got very confused when we played this. All in all, its good fun and really brings back memories from the long 3 years ago when I started playing Halo 2. My favorite part, playing with SMGs, over ARs. This is probably the best thing on forgehub that required no interlocking and merging. For that I applaud you.

    Oh yeah... Equipment fail. LOL

I actually had a really good time testing this map. The original sniper spawn on the sea-wall was perfect and the two plasma grenades were even there. I can see you spent a lot of time perfecting this map because you even had the perfect angles the weapons were set at. I never really thought of making this and even if I did, I'm not sure if I would have had the patience of going back and forth from Halo 2 to Halo 3 to get the perfect weapon placement.

Silence, you did a really nice job on this remake and I'll be sure to play this in customs a lot more that Last Resort! :)

And, what's with the equipment? I noticed a Trip mine by Camp Froman and I was kind of wondering why a Halo 2 remake would have equipment.

I actually have like OCD with weapon placement. If they dont sit just the way i want them to, then i move them around until they do.

The tripmine, lots of controversy. That area used to supply you with ammo and grenade refills, meaning it was worth going there. Now, there is no need to return there because theres no ammo, and 2 frag grenades arent gonna convince anyone to trek over there. I just made a judgement call and added it in for interest since i couldnt add the wraith. You're all free to delete it if you dont want it in there.

I'm actually fine with it. I really enjoyed the way it played in the tight choke point between shotgun spawn and Camp Froman. The trip mine blocked off the Gauss Warthog in that area and forced it to drive between the large wheel in the center of the map.

I respect what you are doing and I like the idea. Unfortunately for me I never really playe Halo 2 and the first Halo, so I can't really relate to what you are expressing. But keep it up.

I agree with what you said about the balsnce thing, in mlg everything just gets old from lack of variety. you have all of maybe 5 weapons to choose from and the always completely symmetrical maps, it gets old. i really do miss the way halo used to be played, when i have friends over we are more likely to play H2 simply because it was funner than what they made halo3 to be. Btw you had some good screenshots in there and it looks great to play on. I have a question tough you said Bungie took out the option to place a wraith on this map so did you replace it with a scorpion or did you just leave it out? This looks like it will be a good game to play with a few friends i will dl hopefully play it soon as i don't have xbox gold and eed to get some more and return with some more proper feedback.

I just left it out. The scorpion is not equal in power, so it'd just be really nasty. The wraith was only in certain gametypes anyways.

You got my DL. Now i get to relive the confusion i faced when halo3 first came out. I couldnt find anything on this map because i was so used to Halo 2, now i get to be confused in reverse. Good times.

I really don't see why you would go through all of the trouble to re-create Zanzibar's gameplay, and then not block off the catwalks. However, I have not played on it yet, and will be back later tonight to give feedback after I try a few games on it. I would wait to post, but I really am curious about the catwalk thing (yes, I did read the other posts)

Its merely the mindset of the first paragraph of my original post that people are missing.

I found nothing wrong with the Last Resort map. I actually like it. However, I feel they water down Halo 3's weapons to make it more "competitive". This in turn is secretly what is making people not enjoy it nearly as much as they used to.

I in no way intended to recreate the exact map, just the rough style and return the fun feeling of chaos without actually being chaos. Hopefully people will just download it, forget about the minor little geometry **** and get what im really talking about.

This map in no way is a forging masterpiece. You merely have to play it to get what i mean.

Zanzibar was my favourite Halo 2 map for objective games. I was so annoyed when I jumped up the camo-tower for the first time on Last Resort to only find a Bubble Shield! Queued for download.

Frankly, I'd use some of the terms you criticized in this thread ("Super overforged map," "tons of BRs, power weapon at 180") to describe some of your past maps. Regardless, I agree with your mindset (It would do well if 75% of the people in this thread reread the first paragraph) and I'm a big fan of Pre-DLC maps knowing that the time not spent on forging is spent playtesting and focusing on gameplay. I never player Halo 2, but you have my download. I'll test this out in my custom on Sunday.
