YouTube - Halo 3 Rube Golberg (Bungie Day) My first Rube Goldberg, which I made for Bungie Day 09. Not the neatest forging, but it contains several Bungie references (ie Soffish).
This was so sick.I loved all of it.But that tank took a bit.My favorite part was the fish overall epic winsuce man.
Possibly the most complex rube goldburg I have ever seen, obviously the coolest. Recons good sir, you should have it.
Thanks everyone for your comments! Really makes the 4 days I spent on it (+ annoying siblings who wanted on xbox) worth it As some of you may have seen from my other videos I've got a new HD capture card which I'll use to recapture this in HD cause everyone loves a better quality picture XD
Even though most of it was the golf ball, it was still pretty good. If we were to download that map, would it do exactly the same thing again? Or does it differ each time? Still though, very nice rube goldberg. You forged the seventh column pretty well IMO.
sad faic. Ah well, I suppose it might look like favouritism if Bungie displayed someone's project on their front page, but didn't mention any of the other many great submissions for Bungie Day, so fair enough. Looks like I'll just have to make another non-Bungie Day themed Rube Goldberg! After various tweaks and changes, I've got it working as well as it possibly could (considering I've used all the budget as well). It normally works around 8 out of 10 times, unless you're having a really bad day, but several things are left to chance, such as the amount of fusion coils which need to hit the tank to make it fall. It normally takes around 5, but I've seen it only take 3. The fusion coil which is on instant respawn is pushed over the edge by the last pallet, so when the pallet respawns the fusion coil stops dropping. This can be very frustrating when the tank is teetering other the edge and one more fusion coil would do it, but it doesn't fall. The ball also bounces differently on the spiral part made out of wall corners (connecting skybubble + ground level), but it works most of the time. So, to answer your question, if it works properly it does exactly the same thing each time, but several things could go wrong. And if one thing goes wrong, the rest of it won't work.
What ROFLninja said fo sho This is Wicked cool Dude! I wish i had the time and Know-how of Halo 3 Physics to make something like this. And Quick Question... How long does it Take to make something like this? wait... Are you that guy from youtube with a Rube Goldberg Machine (Or More) on the Bungie Blog? If so... HAPPY CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Wow, this is sick. Best one of these by far. The tank took too long to fall though. The end was epic! Reconz noa!
This was my first Rube Goldberg, so I also didn't have any know-how whatsoever of Halo 3 Physics. The only things I knew were that vehicles + golf balls would bounce off of shield doors, and golf balls as well as other movable objects are attracted to the magnetic tin cups. Without this knowledge I suppose that instead of knowing if something would work, I tweaked it until I made it work lol. I also made parts of this map as I went along and trying to get everything to work properly most of the time was very frustrating. I don't want to put anyone off making their own Rube Goldbergs, although they take quite a lot of time and effort, in the end watching your creation work like a well-oiled machine is very rewarding, and the feedback even more so. In answer to your question, it took me at least 25 hours to make this map. I didn't really keep track of the exact amount of time as I worked on this pretty solidly for four days. Probably the most annoying part of the entire project was the tank bit (after the pallet dominoes). Originally, I had implimented a catapult like idea, but it rarely worked and was far too inaccurate [I hope in later Rube Goldbergs I might be able to make a similar type of thing which works properly], so like other parts of the map I made the section involving the tank on the spot and although it does take a while I'm quite pleased with it. It's definately an improvement on the garbage which cluttered that part of the map before I deleted it (which I had wasted over 3 hours trying to make work). However, making a Rube Goldberg can take as much or little time as you want. It can also depend on how fast you are at forging, or how intricate your design is. I have seen far more complex Rube Goldbergs than my own and am amazed at some peoples' grasp of the Halo 3 physics engine and how everything works. However, the more complex ones tend not to have a theme, which is what I went for with mine, which is another thing to take into account when you're making a Rube Goldberg. I myself am currently thinking of another idea for a themed Goldberg. I'm afraid that I'm not the "guy from youtube" as I've only made one Rube Goldberg and have never had anything of mine put on the Bungie Blog. You may be thinking of BRought It (Formerly MM Waffle) who has had at least two of his Rube Goldbergs on the Bungie Blog, his most famous video probably being "Top to Bottom". Thanks all for the comments
