I've been watching some of the gameplay videos to see what the pros' strats are on mlgpro and they usually have a pretty big crowd. So do you think it will ever get to a point where MLG games are nationally televised the same way baseball, football, and basketball games are?

I dont think that the the population of people that spend their time watching TV arent interested in playing video games or watching other people play video games....

I really doubt it, mostly because it's not Korea.

And most games do not have a very good watching appeal as you don't see amazing feets of physical fitness or anything to that degree. And to watch a game requires some prior knowledge to really get a grasp as to what is going on.

I don't foresee it happening in the next five years, but afterward (provided we all survive 2012) I wouldn't doubt video games gaining a mass appeal. They've broken into the mainstream market successfully - it's only a matter of time until a large enough bloc of the masses are cultivated and transformed into more "hardcore" gamers like us. :3

Actually it already is lol. My friend said he saw some mlg clips on ESPN one time. I can't really say for sure whether its true or not, but he seemed pretty sure.

Video gaming is a hobby that's slowly mutating into a full-time sport, and with each child born, it seems that gaming becomes more and more popular. While your conservative grandparents are never gonna watch Tsquared frag like a pro without dropping on the floor crying, the new youth generation is becoming to accept competitive gaming more and more. People are already making million of sponsors like any other sport.

My guess is in the next two-three years.

EDIT: ESPN has never broadcasted any gaming clips on television, just online.

Channel 101 for Direct-tv (spellcheck?) showed the Ultimate Gaming Championship a few times. Halo, CS, and Unreal I believe.

Havent seen it for a year maybe, although it was not official MLG.

I could of sworn I watched some major MLG event on television before.
    Maybe Meadowlands, I don't know.

Otherwise, I could also see it being televised with no doubt in a couple years.

Im pretty sure that MLG is shown on ESPN at a really random time when there are no sports (real sports) on. This is shown at really early times in the morning.

no its definitely not. im awake at all hours of the night regularly, and the only time my TV strays from the ESPN family of networks is to NFL Network. Its never been on ESPN, and most likely never will be. Highlights, perhaps in the future, but thats still a ways off. But matches, won't happen. Poker is ESPN's default "there arent any games on tonight" choice of programming. And that won't be changing anytime soon you can bet on that

Best bet would be an MLG dedicated show on something like G4 or perhaps a PPV.. though PPV usually means that its a massively huge event like a fight, and gaming will never be able to match that populace

It is on a sports network, or it was, I'm just not sure which. I've watched it before, and I've had a friend who doesn't game much making a joke about watching it for two hours.

MLG has a partnership with ESPN currently. They partner to bring the first day of each event on ESPN360 subscribers and to create the ESPN/MLG Top 10 and a few others, I think. No event has ever been broadcast on Television at the time it's going on. There has been two times when there has been a series featured on Television but only after the fact. The first series was of the 2006 season on USA. The second was of the 2007 season on G4.

Nothing has been done live on TV.

As for it eventually being on there, I hope so but I'm not sure if it'll happen. If you don't have an idea of what the games being played are all about, you'll be lost. It won't appeal to the broad audience.

I'd most likely watch highlights of MLG games as they tend to be somewhat exciting. However, I could not see majority of the people who watch ESPN to actually watch the clips. I guess there is no point in speculating if it will be on TV in the future or not. Let's just wait and see what happens.

Your answer is yes. It has been broadcasted through out a few channels. I've seen a whole tournament on The Score, and G4. Along with a few MLG top 10 clips.

Probably not anytime soon, but definitely some day. Professional gaming is growing pretty rapidly. MLG FTW!
