Ok, here's the deal. I'm old. I'm set in my ways. I don't like change, unless I understand it. So you can imagine that I'm having a hard time adjusting to these forums. But the more I discover, the more I like. Below I will post some of the cool things I've discovered. Also, I may post some things I am confused about. If you have the answer, help an old dude out and clue me in. Also, feel free to post your own problems or solutions. Hopefully this thread will become a resource for people having trouble adjusting. But please note, this is not a whine thread. Go whine somewhere else. This is for helping people. Also note that changes are still being implemented. Some of the things I mention may get changed as the admins do their magic. Links: This site, unlike the old one, automatically formats links with a gray color, but they are still hard to see. I suggest adding color tags or at least underlining. But make sure you add the code inside the URL tags, or it will automatically format the link back to the original gray. To do that, click the button in the top-right of the posting window to bring up the Editor Mode. And note that color tags need quotation marks (") around the color. Edit By Twilkey: I have made the links underlined. The Shoutbox: For now, the shoutbox appears at the top of every page. It can be distracting, and can "trap" your mouse scroll wheel as you try to scan down the page. You can minimize the shoutbox by clicking the double up arrow button in the top right of the shoutbox. It will minimize the box for the current page and every new page until you expand it again. Also, you can edit one of your shouts by double clicking on the text. When you are done, I think you have to refresh or click on your name. You can send someone a personal shout (just like a PM but they can access it faster or something). You do that by clicking on the pencil to the left of their name and then type your shout. Your shout and any responses will appear in the "PM channel" which you can reach by clicking on the button to the left of the shoutbox. Avatar and Sigs: To edit your avatar and sig, click the "User CP" link at the top of the forums in the horizontal gray bar. It will bring up the User Control Panel which has all sorts of cool stuff. Quick Reply and Multi-Quote: The quick reply button will let you post a reply without loading up another page for typing. Clicking the Multi-Quote button will turn it red. When you've clicked all the ones you want to quote, hit Reply. It will list the quotes you clicked, in the order that you clicked them. How awesome is that? ----------------------------------- And now on to questions I used to be able to make tables in my posts with BBCode. They don't work with this system, at least not the same way. Is there any way to make tables? Answered: Tables = Bad. No more tables. I used to be able to make a horizontal line to separate parts of my post. But the new system won't recognize the old code. How can I do that? Answered: The underscore is your friend.
Answering your questions: 1. The table BBCode was SMF specific. It didn't transfer successfully to the new forum coding. 2. Same thing. I loved that little
I don't think "DQ" does much lately. The main powerhouses behind the forum are Nitrous, BetaWaffle, finalcuthalo, and Twilkey SRT, unless I'm wrong.
Yeah, I've noticed that. He's kinda just lurking around these days. But I'm hoping that these can be re-added. Else, I'll learn how to code the BBCode so I can have my
Tables are HTML. HTML is not allowed, and will not be enabled in the future. It is just another way to get hacked, so thats gone. As for the line to seperate the parts. Just use the underscore.____________________ What are you talking about. You cant resize an image using the bbcode. We have an auto re-sizer.
Thanks Twilkey. I guess "not getting hacked" is better than tables. And the underscore? I hate that thing! I refuse! I'd rather upload an image of a horizontal line! Just joking.
i really like the [ media ] [ /media ] feature that Ty found when he posted the pwning xxxmasterofuxxx in the Off Topic forum ... was pretty cool.
No, I try resizing the image in that super-spiffy editor, right? I resize it, and I click post. It reverts back to normal size. What I need is not the auto-resizer, but a function that allows me to custom set the image size. __________________________ Okay...I guess it sorta works... =( I will miss you,
Wait, what media function? What does it do... and this forum will just take getting used to, but it is great. Still missing a few perks, though... and any chance of the premium boards coming back? (Maybe with a higher post count needed...)
yea the only thing i miss is the embedded youtube function theres probably another way to do it, but i dont know how?
I was just messing with it and you use the word media instead of youtube. eg: http://youtube.com/watch?v=FJ3oHpup-pk
[noparse][/noparse] is the new [youtube] The images have this feature where they will always be thumbnails, and just click to make them full size.
also you don't use the end code in youtube but the Whole link to the page. eg: NO = ybI34Z_ZHbo YES = http://youtube.com/watch?v=ybI34Z_ZHbo (you don't even have to type the media tag you can just COPY&PAST)
When I re-embedded a youtube clip to an older post, it doesn't bring it up in the same cool way with the main page fading in the background. It just pulls up a huge full-screen version that's waaaay pixelated. Bummer.
