I've been making a map for two days now and today, I felt like it was finally starting to take shape and BAM the biggest pain in the ass problem happened. I was just about to finish quite a big building in my new infection map but the map didn't require any "Save>Quit" forging. So yeh, I hadn't really saved much whilst making this map.

Anyway, I went to the kitchen to get a drink, came back to my xbox and UGHHH for some reason I had been put back to the main menu, even though I was in a forge session. I went back to continue making the map and half of the stuff I've made today is gone!

I know, this has taught me that I should save a LOT more often, but has this random main menu thing ever happened to anyone?

Happens to me all the time. During blockout I probably lost 10-15 hours worth of work collectively because of the round limit and I've already lost like 5 hours on my recent map. What happens is that halo can only handle 32 rounds so once you hit the round limit the game boots you to lobby, very annoying if you're not saving often

Ouch, this is the first time it's happened to me and I think I lost about 3 hours work, the bad thing is, it puts me off going back to making it even though I can see it being a good map.

When I forge I forge in spurts so I save when I'm done doing what I need to do. I like that I can pick up forge and put it back down quick that's forge's appeal to me.

Did you restart the round before you left? If so, there is a max amount of times (32 I believe) that you can restart the round in forge before it just ends the game. But yes, always save, that is the biggest lesson learned here.
My box currently playing the RROD game with me, RROD'ing after being left on for so long (sometimes it is fast, sometimes I can leave it on all day), and when I forge, last thing I want is it to RROD on me when I haven't saved. So now, I save constantly. Eventually I will have to go through the pain in the ass process of taking the xbox apart and fixing it, but for now I tolerate it.

    well that sucks
sometimes that happens to me when i try to start a new round and go all the way down to end game. But i usually save fairily often to stop things like that from happening.

This is never happened to me (knocks on wood) and hopefully never will. Im an over saver,so I save almost every round, and I save&quit most of my items.

    So true.

I suppose this thread points out an advantage of making racetracks.
