Source: Neda, young girl brutally killed in Iran, becoming symbol of rebellion

WARNING: The following video is extremely graphic and shows a real person's death. Not for the faint of heart. I do recommend watching it as it really brings home just how real the situation is. (However, not to seem cold, but look at how her eyes appear. I've never realized that happened)

Why has religion and politics come to this? Murder is an understatement for what has happened.

But that's literally what this was.

A murder. And people are just using it as a symbol. This is unfortunately not that common.

And we are now doomed to repeat the past.

This is truly tragic, and although I pass out at the sight of blood sometimes, I watched the video. I almost felt obligated to, not because of the Iranians, but as a service to myself as a reality check. To be thankful for what I have.
Things are heating up, but the Iranians are keeping strong. The government should do what's right, and listen to its citizens. However, they won't do that. As for US involvement, we should not get involved, nor should any other country. Not yet. While we are against the obstruction of human liberties, now is not a time to play hero. At the same time, it almost feels bad to turn out backs on the Iranian people, a group standing up for their freedoms. But I'm talking political involvement, not that of the people. Americans, Europeans, people from around the world, all are hurt by this and support the Iranian people. I think that this is enough, because it gives them the reassurance they need to know that what they are fighting for is right. If there is anything that we should learn from this ongoing event, it is to be thankful for the rights you have.

Have I missed something? What was the motive? What does it have to do with the issues in Iran? I understand that it is tragic. I am sorry for her family and friends. But thousands of people die a day. This should not totally shift your view of the problems in Iran. Maybe if I knew more I would understand.

That's just sick. I can't believe anyone would be able to shoot a girl in the middle of the street for protesting. The sad and terrible thing is though, this isn't stopping. People are going to keep dying, but I hope this death is noticed.

The issue is the whole Iranian conflict as a whole. Iran is a very unstable country, like a fire happy child ontop a keg of powder. When the election results returned, it said that a man that supported the old structure won by a landside. This was unexpected, considering the large amounts of supporters for a new leader (sorry, names escape me). When thousands gathered in the street to protest, it became apparent that the elections were rigged, that the Iranian government had lied to it's people. It was then that the supporters of Mousavi (I think that's his name) began "peaceful" protest for a recount. The government responded by sending out riot and civilian police. To make matters worse, the government head came out and stated that "Iran will not bend to the whims of illegal acts," betraying his own people. He went on to say that if protests continue, protesters will begin to die. Neda marks the first "intentional" fatality in this struggle. Her death was an example projected by the Iranian government to its people that more will continue if protests don't subside. Now, I am sure many have died already, but this was a deliberate sniper round, aimed to kill. That is why her death is important, because it is a clear act of violence from a government on its people.

People revolt, people fight, people die, because they want their country to be better for tomorrow. It's really stupid from the government's point of view. You aren't going to control a riot by shooting people. It's like saying that to put out a raging fire, I should throw gasoline into it. So eventually the government will be reformed. It's just terribly tragic that innocent people's deaths must occur in order for it to take place. But generally speaking, that's how any revolution will happen.

Why would she get shot in the first place? She was just standing next to her father! IMO, we do need to keep our distance, remember Vietnam, Afganastan, Iraq? It will just turn ugly on us, and I'm not being selfish, I would help if I could.

Religion, in actuality, was not the reason for this. Many wanted Ahmadenjad out as president because he would not stop the regime. Moussavi supporters are the protesters that believe the recent election was rigged for Admadenjad.

The election was clearly rigged. There's no question.

Well obviously. Oh and the reason why they are firing into a crowd of people is currently 'unknown'. Some one said that the regime is attacking innocent protesters because they are not fully a democratic republic and also because they want the U.S.A. to leave Iran and neighboring countries.
