I've started building my own custom desktop, it's going to be a budget gaming rig. It's my first time doing this, but I think I have everything. I'm trying to keep it around $500. I've already got my RAM but everything else is changeable. I'll be using CD/DVD drives from my current computer. I'm not sure if I'll be able to OC much with this since I don't have any third party cooling devices.

Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg

    Intel Pentium E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz Dual-Core Processor
ASUS P5Q SE/R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
    640GB Western Digital Hard Drive
    4GB (2x2GB) Corsair DDR2 800 RAM
    XFX GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB GPU
    OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W PSU

It costs $520 after mail in rebates. I bought the RAM for $33.

What do you guys think so far? I'm open to any suggestions.

No OEM, no drives? Dual-core? What are you doing writing .txt documents?

Get an AMD quad core if you're gaming or a Core 2 Duo if you are doing digital design. And for god's sakes get a mobo that supports ddr3. Close to the same price, 3x the performance.

This CPU delievers so much more performance and I bet overclocking would be a breeze. It's not a very expensive CPU.

I'm getting the drives from my current computer. I chose that CPU because of its cost. AMD Quads and C2Ds are too expensive; they'll wreck my budge. The CPU you chose is $50 more than the one I chose.

I didn't even buy DDR3 memory because it was more expensive. DDR2 will work fine for my purposes. There are 2 other slots I could fill with DDR2 memory in the future if I need it.

Well if you want to fill those slots you'll need 64 bit. What are you using it for?

He said a budget gaming rig I think, so gaming I would have to assume. If I know one thing from having 64-bit Vista though, compatability really bites you in the ass every now and again.

Ah I didn't know that. I'm getting 32 bit Vista because of the compatibility issues with 64 bit (as stated above). I think 4GB will work for me, it's better than the 1GB I have right now.
