Tartarus (V.2) Those who have been judged will be punished here for eternity. Created by Sikamkanico (4 - 10 players) The BuTube Video can be found here. About "Tartarus" Let's face it, if it's one thing Halo 3 lacks, it's smaller, symmetrical arena maps. So I've built one. It can handle all game types, and up to 12 players (at a push). I wanted to attempt to make a smaller, more close quarters arena map with classic gameplay elements. I love the idea of being able to scale different heights very quickly, as well as using the drops to get out of trouble fast. It features a classic Halo weapon set, and I think people will be generally pleased with the gameplay they'll experience on this map. The best feature on this map in my opinion is the Grav Lifts. Built using man-cannons, they look like a genuine part of a level, and they never fail - they take you to the same part of the map every time. I remember watching a Halo 3 Vidoc describing how important movement is for a map, and how necessary it is to give players a choice. As you watch the videos, its interesting to note all the different routes players take to get around. I'd also like to thank several people for all their invaluable assistance when it came to testing this map. In particular - Mini Waz, Ash55, Vinnie13 (the Grav Lifts owe you their existence) and the rest of OMG and Test Pilot. You rock. Enjoy the map. Weapon Load-out: 1 x Energy Sword (180 seconds) 2 x Plasma Rifle (60 seconds, Spare Clips: N/A) 8 x Battle Rifle (20 seconds, Spare Clips: 2) 2 x Shotgun (120 seconds, Spare Clips: 0) 2 x Sniper Rifle (150 seconds, Spare Clips: 1) 4 x SMG (45 seconds, Spare Clips: 2) 2 x Plasma Pistol (60 seconds, Spare Clips: N/A) 2 x Needler (90 seconds, Spare Clips: 2) 4 x Carbine (45 seconds, Spare Clips: 2) 10 x Plasma Grenades (10 seconds) Equipment: 2 x Power Drain (120 seconds) 2 x Regenerator (120 seconds) 1 x Active Camo (180 seconds) 1 x Overshield (180 seconds) Screens: DOWNLOAD HERE! this looks pretty good looks like you spent some time on this I like the layout and everything the bases are good and everything looks neat. 4.5/5 Good job.
very good map i see that alot of effort was put into this map, and good that you did it turned out great it all looks amazing but i think you might have put a little bit too much in the map, i could start to get confusing but thats only a minor problem for me, i really like the multilevels, very well forged good job
Amazing map. I especially like the grav lifts. I have seen your maps before, In my opinion, they aren't as good as this one (Excluding haunted manor). This is a definate download for me. Maybe you should try remaking the last level of the Halo 2 campagne where you actually fight that big brute guy in the sky bubble. 17/5
Have you submitted this map in ATLAS yet? I'm certain they could use a map like this for gametypes such as Team Swat or Team Snipers (though both would work incredibly well, in my opinion).
This is an awesome map. The changes made since the last version really stand out. I really like what you have done with the regenerator which can be grabbed from both underneath and outside of the base. Gameplay is solid and through all of the test plays, i can't see any major flaws with this map.
Nice map, good luck with your ATLAS submission. I agree with CyraxZ, this map would be sweet for swat.
Thanks - I'm making both a SWAT and Snipers Version, and I'll grab playtest videos for them to show Shishka too.
I would have to agree with mini waz here, the games i played when playtesting were solid!! An awesome map and one that keeps you thining when playing it! SWAT would be epic!! One to try out i think!!
Pros: From the look of the first picture, it seemed like a maze type of map in the middle, which is great. The man-cannons at the back of the symmetrically forged bases look great too. The sword seems like a great weapon to a small/medium map like this. Cons: Both Camo and OS in my opinion seem too much, if I were you I would only have one of them, but otherwise (and still is) it is a great map.
Thanks for the comment. Both teams can get to either OS or AC in the same amount of time, so it's pretty balanced.
I loved playing on this map. One of things many people forget when buidling maps for Atlas is their map isn't going to be in its own playlist, players aren't going to be downloading screenshots and map overviews to find the power weapons or even jsut how to get to the other base. Maps have to intuitive for the players who may never play on those maps again! Like Utah Mambo, I have seen it once in matchmaking and it was then vetoed. OctoDeath's map I think I have only seen about 4 or 5 times. I'm digressing, my point is that maps need to be very easy to understand quick for players to get a mental map made. This map, although those screenshots do make it a bit daunghting, fits the bill. One thing I liked, I'm sure how much others will agree with me, is that the power weapons weren't intimidating. I didn't feel over powered by snipers or sword wielders, they were good weapons to have but they're not weapons which will dominate the map, making the game much harder for the other team. I would be happy to see and play this in matchmaking.
wow very nice layout. looks very cleaner and it looks like the gameplay is very good on your map. i also like how you use the bridges on your map. overall nice jub 4.7/5
Thank you very much dude! One thing I tried hard to achieve was to make the map as balanced and intuative as possible.
I've played this again since and i really do think that you've hit the nail on the head. The map structures are nice and varied and there's gonna be some really nice gameplay going down on this in the future. I look forward to seeing the reaction of the community in the next Weekly Update. 1 / 10 Originality 3 / 10 Gameplay 8 / 10 Space Utilisation 10 / 10 Overall, i will continue to support this map on it's path to matchmaking : )
I'm loving the random numbers there dude. And sssssh! about the whole secret squirrel thing. I'm just glad people are enjoying the map as much as I am. I have made and am starting to test SWAT and Sniper variants, and SWAT is particularly good.
It's a shame that you have to make new map variants for SWAT and Snipers, will you be posting the links to those in this thread? It seems like it could work quite well with these 2 gametypes because of the nicely spread out cover.
I love this map. It's about time someone realized the greatness and the joy of a small map. I can see the effort and work that most other forge maps on this site lack (no offence.) 5/5, the best forge map I've ever seen.
