Last night my friend and I where bouncing ideas around and came up with a particularly interesting one.
    1. Make the map HUGE
-Use every object affordable -Diverse architecture
    2. Have a lot of people playing and set it to FFA.
-This way there are more enemies to fight
    3. Design the map so that it is relatively linear so that people can find each other.

    4. Neutral spawns scattered around. Make sure the map flows well.

The idea is to make the map work sort of like a campaign. I think that there will be some interesting battles. If it is done correctly it could be very cool. If it is done correctly...
These concepts are the backbone of how a game is played.
Please share your map concept ideas or discuss others.

I can't even imagine the work that would be needed to be put into that to make it good. I think you are right though. That is what bungie made the game for. It would be loads of fun. hopefully someone could make a good rendition of what you are looking for. I will keep my eye on this thread. see what ppl come up with.

I was actually thinking along the same path as you last night. I wanted to create a map like Valhalla/Blood Gulch but just on Sandbox.

Diverse Architecture would be the asthetic key to the map.

Big battles would have to be created. Example Below
    - 2 warthogs chasing each other in the far out sand dunes while a tank is getting lazered from someone at a base. 2 banshees and a hornet are going at it in the sky while little skirmishes are happening all over the rest of the map.

Vehicles and bases would have to be plenty, as the long walk across the map would encourage quitting.

Enough weapons and ammo would have to be placed throughout the map to ensure battles continue throughout the map.

    Spawn placement is also key.

    Again, transportation must be everywhere.

I will start looking into some of these problems. I'll use Sketch-up to design different style bases. There will be a main base for each team and then a aircraft station which holds banshees and hornets. Then there will be a center base along with other small fortifications throughout the map.

I like your input. So far I imagine it being a well done labyrinth of distinctly different areas. Using both the x and y axis of the crypt.
Something else also caught my attention yesterday. Remember Halo CE? That would be cool if you could give them 2x overshields that never recharge and make custom power-ups health packs. Old idea, but i remember it being fun.

patt06snipe, are you talking about blocking the boundary laser things? I'd like to help you with whatever I can with your map. Send me a message or something.

Yes, I am talking about that and I also have the blocked lazer canvas map, so if we need to look at it then we can. It is pretty massive, and dark..kinda hard to see. Should we disscuss the idea here or what?

Yes I remember Halo CE...I think that we could use that and just make humans have lower health..no shields...and no recharge rate...so they have to get the power up thing as health. That would be cool.

First of all, you must know this will be difficult to create a large map that works well with FFA.

Let's hop into the map design world.

What makes a map good for FFA? I want to look at one of my favorite maps that works well with FFA. The map is guardian. I think its pretty agreeable that Guardian is a good map for FFA. Let's see why. What type of map is Guardian? In order to make your map work, it will need to be compartmentalized. What does this mean? It means that the map has different, smaller areas. Let's take a look at how Guardian does this.

    What are Guardian's compartments?

    Blue
    Gold
    Green
    S
    Mid

This names are familiar to most players.

See how each area is separated? There could be battles going on in one that does not at all affect the others.

    Let's further dissect Guardian.

    Blue

    • 1
    • 2
    • Window
    • Lift (?)
    Gold

    • Top
    • Bottom
    • Camo
    Green

    • 1
    • 2
    S

    • 1
    • 2
    • 3
    Mid

    • Top
    • Bottom
This lets you see how some are separated smaller and some are not. There are more smaller areas that are mainly for transitions such as elbow.

After looking at Guardian, you should understand the concept.

It is important that it is compartmentalized because open maps do not work for FFA, they promote spawn-camping.

    Good luck!

Ill post progress reports here. last night I had to make my own laser blocked-oln canvas, turns out that there were none for dl, either oln or laser block but not both. Ill post that canvas for anyone who needs it a bit later.

but I have a beta done that I am testing tomorrow. Im happy with how it has come along so far. I need more testers, so if you wanna help, post http://www.forgehub.com/forum/testers-guild/74842-6-00pst-saturday.html there
