Okay, I'll update this page with my progress as I go. Basically, if you didn't already know, I'm working on a map that consists (mainly) of two tall buildings (which I am colloquially calling apartments for ease). I had this idea back in the day of Foundry, but couldn't construct the map due to the height limit of the map. One building will be the 'red' building and one will be the 'blue' building. The map will probably work for any gametype but will work best for Assault, CTF, Territories, KoTH and Team Slayer. _______________________________________________ I've started a sketchup design of the buildings, but I've only started so I'm going to have to describe to you how the map will look: After much time weighing up the pros and cons of each area, I decided to build the map on the main area. Each building is 8 squares away from the centre square (crypt hole). Atm in sketchup I'm building the walls out of double walls, single walls and wall corners. However, each apartment needs to be identical so I'm going to have to divide my total resources by 2 in order to have enough to build the second apartment. I don't know the exact numbers but according to Bungie's news post on the objects of Sandbox (tools of the trade), there are 30 wall doubles, 20 wall corners and 28 walls. I don't know whether this is accurate as I'm away from my xbox atm. So can someone correct these if necessary? However if these are accurate that gives me 10 corners, 15 double walls and 14 walls for each apartment. That's not many building materials. I'm hoping I have access to more than this. I'll be using a budget-glitched OLN canvas so I'll have the maximum number of placeable objects and the maximum amount of budget. The remaining items will be moved to the crypt once the map is complete. However, the guardians will NOT be turned off. _______________________________________________ So, what I need from you guys is: - An accurate object count for the scenery - General ideas (and no, I don't intend to put lifts in the apartments) - Ideas of what I should put around the apartments - A name (or should I just call the map "Apartments"?) - Feedback Thanks! EDIT: I can't reserve a post! sadfaic -Reserved- ****!
Make sure there is cover on the ground as well so it isnt just people in towers shooting at eachother.
That was his original idea, to promote combat between the two. I also think that is self-explanatory. You can make the apartments small, as opposed to wide. Then, make cover so you have vehicular battle, as well as ground battle. Then you have balance between the three combat scenarios. Apartment-to-apartment, ground, and vehicular.
Sounds like you can only get somewhere around 5 stories for each building here. And, maybe a balcony could take up one floor. Maybe a block, huge with wedge railings facing the other building. This could also be the bomb and flag spawn/capture. This can also be where the teams start. How about that? As for names, maybe "Towers"? Apartments sounds great, though. Good luck!
Names? Hmm....Sand Bloc, The Office, Two Towers (dont know if that will fit), oooh, The Two Towers, (hehehe) Epic Estates (hehe), Twin Towers. (...) Some were pretty gay, but others were epic.
Yeah, good idea. Although no-one has tried to do something like this before, so it can't really be unoriginal...
Think outside the box. E.g. You could say something too do with the history of the buildings. Or you could do something like 'Separation' because of the apartments which would separate the team.
In Forge Hub, the first thing you see is the name from the threads list. If people were looking at Forge Maps, and there was "Towers" and a map called something like "Salvation" which do you think would be chosen?@
Don't make them too wide, like he said. And you might want to reconsider not using lifts. There won't be much room at all. Five stories each sounds like it's pushing it for the OLN...
I was thinking you could put the towers close so that if you jump from a top window you can land in the second or third story window on the other tower. Maybe a fire escape on the side so there's different paths and not much camping (which I think might be your biggest problem). And like someone else said about vehicle battles on the bottom floor, I think it would be a good idea if the vehicles were on a set path like a street around the buildings? Make sure the vehicles have disadvantages if you do go that way. Also if you forgot about the Slit Walls, you could use them for windows.
I;m already doing all of that stuff. I was thinking of doing a freeway around the outside to stop people escaping, but I ditched the idea because people would want to be able to drive on it.
Are you planning on adding something like a sky-walk? Or you could make a road in between with street lights you can hop across.
I want to connect them somehow, but I'm not sure if a skywalk would work. Maybe an enclosed one that's not on the top floor?
Please don't rush through this map it has great potential and I think if you took you're time into putting every detail on it, It would probably go into MM. It would be sick if you took the Moon Waffle idea and put an elevator in it.
