Gridlocked - Multi-Flag Capture the Flag - 4/8 Players, Symmetrical. Download Link: http://www.bungie.net/forums/posts.aspx?h3fileid=27578054 Hello everyone, my first post at Forgehub and also my first map since the new DLC maps became free on Tuesday. Gridlocked is my first attempt at Forging, man what a pain it can be when you accidentally delete something at the bottom and havent saved in a while! As it was my first map I wanted to base it on a previous map I have had lots of fun playing as this gave me a base to work from so that I didnt over complicate myself so I chose the Gears of War map, Gridlock. I created this 4-8 player Capture the Flag map in about 9 hours which I reckon is pretty good as I didnt even know how to properly spawn and rotate the objects at the start. Originally the map started as a TDM map but it was difficult to stop spawn camping without losing the feel of the original Gears of War map so I changed it to a "Multi Flag" Capture the Flag map and it has excelled in our tests so far. As a nice twist, the flag spawn points and capture points are in different places. The Flag Spawn points and "main Bases" are located on the raised sections at the sides of the map near where the Rocket Launcher spawns and the Capture points are located where the players spawn behind the 90angled wall. This means that both sides have a flat side/base to defend from, but have to cross the middle of the map with the flag if they want to run the fastest route. This creates a nice wide chokepoint. There are a number of ways the carrier could run, with the sniper tower just as prominent in the original Gears map, control is crucial if you want to survive the run back. The barriers throughout the map provide much needed cover while breaking up the map just enough so that it doesnt become a run and gun fest (although there are areas where you can). A nice little touch I noticed was that as the match progresses the barriers get more and more damaged which adds a nice touch. Weapons are pretty limited with 1 Battle Rifle on each side of the map near the Flag, a Shotgun in the middle, a Sniper Rifle in the Sniper Tower with slightly reduced ammo and a Rocket between the 2 flags with only 2 Rounds. The only equipment is a single Bubbleshield located in the middle near the shotgun. Players who use this wisely can provide much needed cover for the flag runner, although getting to the shotgun and the shield is pretty tretcherous. Remember this is my first attempt at a map, ive tried to make it as fun as possible while making it still pleasing to the eye. The map includes some nice shortcut jumps and sneaky places if you can find them (they arent difficult) just watch for some of the Fusion Coils. Please have a go and tell me where to improve etc. Main Area: Spawn Location: Sniper Tower: Rockets: 1 of the Bases: Capture the Flag - Gridlocked - http://www.bungie.net/forums/posts.aspx?h3fileid=27578054
Re: Gridlocked - A Gears of War Adaption It looks interesting and a sound recreation from Gears of War. I don't see a link posted, though; so you may have some problems getting DL's. Other than that, welcome to Forge Hub! EDIT: And now I see why. You need to publish your map on the Bungie site first, then post the link to that from here.
Re: Gridlocked - A Gears of War Adaption Got a link to the map up there now, everything as it should be?
Re: Gridlocked - A Gears of War Adaption Everythings ok now, but if you are looking to improve your map, maybe you could try get a photo of gridlock from GOW, and get another screenshot of your map from the same spot. Its really cool for players to compare, and we know it isnt going to look identical,
Re: Gridlocked - A Gears of War Adaption looks like every things in the right spot could use some interlocking but great job!!
Re: Gridlocked - A Gears of War Adaption Cheers for the input guys, ill try and get some Gears of War photos although it might be pretty difficult as I dont have a capture card. Maybe ill try and get some photos from the web. As for the interlocking, im guessing this is to do with getting the main double boxes to lock together properly so that there is no chance of them moving. I tried to do that by shoving them together over and over again so that they are as tight as possible, is there a better way?
Re: Gridlocked - A Gears of War Adaption Ah thanks for that, wish i'd known about that before I created the map, although im right on the budget limit for the map. Would have been nice for the top of the "bases".
Re: Gridlocked - A Gears of War Adaption First off, outstanding map post with the description and all But keap practicing using interlocking, it really improves maps. And if I'm being honest, I have a better gridlock remake on my xbox, but this is still great for a first map Keep forging and welcome to forgehub
Re: Gridlocked - A Gears of War Adaption please change your thread title to your map's name only, like everyone else. it is a Forge Hub requirement, and helps keep our Forums cleaner, separating us from the garbage at the Bnet. Thanks!
