    Advance! (Fully Playable Beta)

Version 1 Update Is Out Check It Here

This is just a beta so keep that in mind while reading, viewing and posting. However, this map and gametype are FULLY playable!

This is a map that uses all 3 levels of the map Sandbox. It uses the "Grifball" game-type yet it is modified to work with this map. Basically both teams start off in the middle level of sandbox on top of each default base. The bomb starts in the center of the middle level of sandbox (awkward, I know.) Both teams rush to get to the bomb first similar to "Grifball". However, the similarities stop there. Once one team has gotten the ball they must bring it to the Tele-porters at the end which brings them to either the sky bubble or crypt. There they must make it to the bomb plant point. This is really difficult to explain so ill try it with pictures.

Lets start off in the middle level. Here you can see that not too much was modified for this beta. Each team starts off on the double wall on top of each base (its where you see the red spartan.) Here you can also see the two tele-porters which take you down to the crypt on the left side of the screen and the ones on the right take you to the skybubble. Oh, and underneath the center structure is the bomb spawn point.

Now lets go into the crypt. Here you can also see that some things where added but not lots because the Gametype is still similar to "Grifball" which seems to work better with more open spaces (or at least in my opinion)

Now let move way up into the skybubble. Here you can see some quick double blocks and blocks put together. It is almost the same size as the crypt. You can also see the bomb plant point in this picture.

Right about now some of you may be wondering what the coner tubes are. Well they are where you come out of when you go into the tele-porters. I made them so that it is hard to tele-camp the people coming out of them. Inside you can see that I have a man-cannon which shoots you up and a grav-lift which shoots you out. The custom powerup give you 50% more speed (200%) for 4 seconds which will let you get to the level which people are fighting on quicker.

Here you can see the person being shot out.

About the gametype... (Things Changed From Grifball)
    - Gave bomb carrier 200% speed and everyone else 150%
    - Custom powerups and advance respawn setting give people 200% speed

    Things to note...
    * Incase you haven't read anything, this map and gametype are BETA's, yet they are FULLY playable. The only reason why I posted it as a beta because I want suggestions and I was not sure about peoples reactions as well.
    * Please comment as it will greatly help with the map.
    * I don't want people to compare this to "Grifball" as it would stand no chance, instead think of it as a different way to play the game.
    * The gametype is REQUIRED!

    Map... Advance! (Beta)

    Gametype...(Required) Push! (Beta)

I honestly think it's pretty sweet.
    Great use of Sandbox period.
You managed to use all 3 floors without hitting the item limit.
Thats something alot of people cant manage to do, specially me. haha.
Again, awesome job on the map.

To be honest at first I thought it could not be done. However, I ended with around $100 left. Thanks for the comment too

No problem, and keep up the good work.
With a map like that, I bet if you took the time you could make a really decent Team Slayer map.
    Keep on Forging. :)

Yeah thats true. It was originally going to be something like that but I felt it worked with grifball a little better. Good suggestion,

very cool idea but it sounds like if someone gets the bomb they are homefree. are they slower with the bomb or is their another way to catch them?

I agree I like the other areas to play in but if the bomb carrier goes through the teleporter whats stopping him from scoring it defeats the purpose of all that nice forging unless one person on your team stayed up there to gaurd.

Yeah that can happen, yet while I was playing it rarely did because someone was always dead and was respawning and then could slow the bomb carrier down until the rest of the team came. I am able to make them slower though. Do you guys have any ideas?

Cool concept. Couldn't one team essentially camp at the teleporters and control a vital floor, though?

While that may be possible it is pretty hard. When exiting a teleporter it is pretty hard to camp the person because the person exiting is shot up and can see the surroundings before they land. Going into a teleporter it is possible to camp but would be very difficult and not worth it. First of all the object is to advnace forward so camping at one of the teleporters is not the smartest thing to do as they would never win. Secondly there are two teleporters. This means that if someone was to camp at them and win they would have to have people at two teleporters as well as people actually trying to score. Now I know people are good at Grifball but I dont think that people are that good!

What would happen if you went to the top floor and dropped the bomb down to the middle floor where your team caught it then went to the crypt? If you did that with there entire team on your floor, you could win easily right?

I can see what you are saying but what would be the point of that? If you got the other team to follow the bomb carrier up there that would be extremely risky because then if he lost the bomb the other team has pretty much won. Why have the guy bring the bomb up to the top, why not just have him move with the rest of the team? Also if the other team is dumb enough to run past the other team to the top level, then I think the other team deserves to win :p

Sorry if I sound defensive about my map. I am not trying to at all. I just don't want to sound like one of those people who flip out at others if they give suggestions on their maps.

send me a PM when you think this is ready to advance beyond the Beta stage - i will have some actual Grifball teams test it for you

keep in mind that they like floors that are not too bumpy (compare your Skybox floor to the Grifball High map, a few small bumps are fine but if they force the jumping animation there could be problems - just so you know, the Grifball High floor is under the Skybox soft floor, not sitting on top of it)

Okay thanks for the offer. Not sure if its similar to grifball enough to actually have teams play it. I like to think of it as a casual grifball map if it must be called grifball. As for the floor there are no bumps which actually require you to force jump. However since I didnt interlock for the beta there are bumps which push you up.

we like to play other games as well, especially if we can apply our Grifball skills to a different variant

the floor on Grifball High has almost no interlocking and is very smooth - you should consider pushing your floor under the soft floor - it takes longer to build but you end up with a very flat floor - remember to have the bottom of the double blocks facing up and in the same orientation
