Map Description: This map is based off of the TIARA from the Halo book Contact Harvest. It is a supply station with many supply crates and cardboard boxes scattered all over. To sum up this map, it is a smaller Orbital with an elevator in the shaft. The elevator is very odd, however, because objects in the elevator, with the exception of doors, light up. I couldn't figure out how to fix this so that may or may not be a problem, depending on what you think. This map was designed for CTF, Slayer, FFA, and Territories.

At first I started this because of my Space Station - Orbital Maps thread. All I wanted to do was create a different version of Orbital, keeping the same feeling, but changing the overall gameplay. It started as an experiment to make an elevator in the shaft, then soon I realized that Orbital's design, while asymmetric overall, had very similar areas, and each base had different designs but led to different areas. I started placing some boxes and blocking areas to cut the map size roughly in half. Then I placed some weapons, checked to see if it worked overall, and it ended up being this, a different Orbital.

People like Foundry, Sandbox, and Avalanche because of the forging capabilities, but I get tired of the same displays, and wanted to make this map special. Orbital is a freaking Space Station... in SPACE. Who wouldn't like a map like that. Perfect theme, perfect gameplay, I don't see what is wrong with forging here. Sure there aren't the greatest forging objects, no containers or walls, and no way to make something like a scarab here, or completely new bases for that matter. So forgers give up on this and go to Sandbox. Really this could be a great forge map, as long as you change your forging techniques to fit this style map. And I think that is why I like this map so much. It's a different experience.

Thanks to a few of my friends who helped test, thanks to that thread mentioned earlier for ideas, and thanks to anyone who gives Orbital a chance. This map is one of the most fun maps I've created, but also one of the trickiest due to Orbital's nature.

I admire your commitment to making Orbital into something, forge-wise, but it just isn't durable enough. There are no useful objects and the current layout is rigid and unchangeable.

I love the look of Orbital and the map works well on flag and bomb variants but it just does not work with slayer of any kind - not well anyway. I can't see how you can use Orbital with forge and make something worthwhile, personally, although I hope you prove me wrong - and all the other people who feel the way you do.

    Good luck.

Well, you CAN make something great on Orbital, just not in the way other maps are great. It's like food. Ice cream tastes great and there are many different types that people like, similar to Sandbox. Then there are some other foods which taste great too, but not like Ice cream. And Ice cream will never be like those because of its iciness. Bad reference, I know but it gets the point across. You need a different technique for every map. And besides, we forged pretty well before any DLC, right?

Actually it is the new area, the elevator I made. It looks different because the elevator was made to look like an actual piece of the map, rather than a death pit. It is like this only because of positioning and such.

No, actually. I can't think of anything forged before Heroic that has been of any good - apart from the odd non-competitive fun- or challenge-map.

But besides that I would like to see what people can do on Orbital. It's just a terrible shame that the two standard bases can't be linked, for example, by removing a door or something. Of course the map isn't designed like this but it's a shame because it could be soo much better. I really wish they hadn't used two horseshoes for the layout. It's original but it generally doesn't work.

True, most maps weren't fun, but we did manage to learn the features of forge from the non-DLC maps. By the time foundry came we had ideas set up and when we learned about interlocking, geomerging, and saving objects in the air, we had a forge paradise. Thing is, foundry doesnt have one of those themes, not like orbital and them. it is a blank warehouse waiting for someone to create a new thing, same goes for sandbox, but it has more of a theme to it and helps for forging. But, yah, I see where you are coming from. Still, I must go with the making these maps better, because they still have potential, like Conquest for them. And it's not about making aesthetics on these, they already have that. Its more about gameplay, and that is why they can make great maps. If you still disagree, thats fine, but i personally just see potential in maps like these, depending on how you use them.

I'm with you on this one. I prefer forging on the DLC maps like orbital, but my reasons are not only for the feel of it but also for the simplicity. I like to use the basic design of the maps when I use forge.

Anyway, just an Idea that I wouldn't be able to do, but do you think you could make a race map on orbital? It seems like a good idea, but I suck at geomerging.

Yah, I think a race map would work well on Orbital, especially since it has so many hallways.

Pretty good map for Orbital. The elevator looks really good and the cardbaord boxes are quite shiny...^^. Still... I honestly dont see why people put vehicles on this map, i just find that there isnt enough room.

I can't fix the cardboard boxes, they just stay shiny if in the elevator, but it still works fine. As for the mongeese, I was thinking maybe only one per base and I regret posting this before fixing that. I may or may not make another version of this. But I need mongeese on the map for aesthetics and just for moving quickly around the map (or for people who want to mess around here)
