    This map is an infection map which is more tactical than most infection maps I have played. Humans have to be resourceful and intelligent to survive, whilst zombies need work together and communicate to break down the human’s defences. Whilst running headfirst into the human’s gunfire is a viable option here, tactics are left to the player’s discretion.
    The map has quite a complex layout, so I suggest having a run-through with your party before playing. I have “reverse-engineered†(/euphemism) some ideas from other maps (like the shield doors) and adapted them slightly, and there is quite a lot of choice in terms of tactics. Comments would be appreciated, as this is my first map. Read below if you want to read the little story bit, or skip right ahead to get the meat of this post; the pictures!

    The infection spread quickly. We didn’t expect such a vast and rapid contamination almost our entire facility. It was that new biohazard team who released it; not following our established protocol to the letter. The entire team was lost. The infection itself was quickly able to utilize their knowledge of our new shield defences, and reverse them on us. Funny, how a single cell is able to adapt and cause so much chaos. It’s slightly ironic how the containment wall, designed to keep contaminations such as this out, is now being used to keep us trapped within our impromptu headquarters. A Spartan and Sangheili team were dispatched several hours ago to try and repair the shielding systems. There has been no response since, not even on the radio. It has been decided by command that it is unacceptable for any more knowledge of biohazard defence systems to fall into the hands of the infection, especially given our intricate involvement with the creation of these systems. Therefore, team survival until reinforcements can arrive is alpha priority. A specialised biohazard team has been dispatched to our aid; ETA is about 11 minutes, which unfortunately makes now the perfect time for the infected to add to their ranks. We need to move from here.

    Containment Wall Base
    The containment wall is a wall specifically designed to keep infections out and to allow for safe handling of hazardous materials. It contains a prototype gravity-lift manipulation system, which can raise things up over the wall.

    Armoury
    Red Reign was partly a military facility as well as a research facility, so it does contain some hefty firepower. The armoury can be reached by continuing following concourse A. Unfortunately, the team we sent to try and deactivate the defensive systems took quite a substantial amount of weaponry from the armoury with them, so the exact inventory is far less than would be expected. Be warned, the armoury also contains two experimental teleporters, which we are reasonably certain are online. A shield door will come online after 150 seconds by the main entrance, making holding here much harder for the humans.

    Alpha Base
    Alpha base was the centre of our operations to fight the infection. The main contamination happened just outside the base, and an instant evacuation was ordered. The base is extremely large, containing the largest amount of heavy ordnance in the entire facility, and it is also a storage centre for equipment, particularly fusion coils for powering machinery. The base contains a “state-of-the-art†yet barely functional shield door system which can be unlocked for a brief 10 seconds, and will then auto-lock. It also contains a decommissioned Gauss Warthog, but conveniently, its turret remains operational. This will be the primary holding ground for the humans, as they make their last stand.

    I put an awful lot of work into this map, even if it doesn’t look like it. I tried to make the best gameplay experience with smaller parties, often on only one console. I find it plays out best with 3-4 players, any more than that makes it quite hard for the zombies. This map was inspired heavily by Traxus Co, where I loved the choice given to the humans and the mobility of the whole thing. There was some testing involved, although not as much as I’d have liked, and feedback would be much appreciated, as a remake is always a possibility, if this map isn’t universally hated, that is. There’s just enough time for some comments given from “beta testersâ€:

    I like this map. This level of organization sure is a fresh approach to infection maps. I do have a comment about the shield door and gravity lift combination. did you put the gravity lift on instant respawn, because 2 grenades placed at the foot of the shield door can destroy the gravity lift.

    Haha =P. It's a quote from a Peter Gabriel song called "Red Rain". Like how Bungie's "upcoming" map is called Purple Reign and that sounds like Purple Rain which is also a song and...yeah. I didn't put the grav lifts on instant respawn, and I've never heard of that happening either. Very odd. The idea is that you can break the shield doors in order to get out, of course, but you have to run THROUGH the shield and place a grenade at the foot of the lift. Evidently I didn't do enough testing. If I decide to make a second version I will try and take this into account.
