I have thought for a while after exploring Orbital. Unlike the way Conquest changes the map, which obviously works well on Orbital, why not create a new map that actually makes this map's regular Custom gameplay differ (examples: A slayer map, infection map, KoTH, CTF, something). We could shorten the map and block off certain areas, use certain parts as central areas, maybe create more passageways (a staircase across the elevator shaft), and more. No maps really take advantage of Orbital's design, the fact that it is in outer space or any of that. Sandbox is great for forge, no doubt, but it doesn't have the item's or background theme Orbital allows. So any suggestions for an Orbital map? I plan on creating my next map here. Even an infection map wouldn't be too bad. Please just give me some ideas or make one yourself. I just don't want to see Orbital's theme go to waste.
Good idea. So many people Forge on Sandbox, Foundry, Avalanche and Ghost town, but no one ever realizes that other maps can be forged to effect gameplay. I think you should build that staircase across the elevator shaft like you said.
Better yet, block off everywhere except the lower, center hallway and make a game where you have to go from the base way at the far end all the way to the raised platform across the elevator shaft is. It sounds like a fun idea in theory, however, most things only sound fun in theory.
How about a competitive puzzle map, two teams try to beat the other to the middle by getting through obstacles.
I'm currently working on an orbital map. its an infection map that you advance back to certain points and await there opening (make it back to a door and wait for the teleporter to unlock after one minute. However the difference is that you can reblock the pathways there-by blocking the rest of your team-mates with the undead. There are 10 for last man standing.
I have been trying to create something, start using the main bases as central points and the staircases as large dispute areas. The the elevator shaft will be sort of like a most wanted area where I'll spawn a power weapon. Nothing great yet, but I have ideas. And I also have an idea for infection here. It could play out like Aliens, where there are humans trapped on this ship needing evac in a set time limit, a game that could play out like Help is on the way. Then in the end a boss zombie (alien queen) will spawn and wipe out remaining survivors. This is just one idea though. And OBVIOUSLY used before, but could be recreated better on Orbital. And if any of you have read Contact Harvest you should know about the TIARA, the space station that transports all supplies to and from Harvest. Maybe a slayer themed map known for it's hallways filled with supply crates and generators for power. And the elevator shaft could have an actual elevator that holds supplies on it and a power weapon would be placed here if people were willing to take the jump and hope to survive. EDIT: Map production still to start. I think I'll go with the TIARA idea instead, and the infection later. Can't start this yet cause of school finals and all those end of the school year projects coming up. I'll keep everyone up to date with progress, but right now I'll take it easy. Where is everyone? This thread still needs ideas. And my map is done, find it in my signature.
i agree completely orbital has good forgeing capibility i just posted a new map on orbitial as well its based on the game dead space check it out:Dead Space but i totally support orbital its probably my favorite map
i made an infection map thats supposed to be like a campaign mission that uses most of the original scenery, but blocks off certain paths. its pretty cool IMO, if you wanna check it out its in my sig. (CampaignOrbital)
