Mausoleum is considered to be a remake of 'Backwash' (Halo 2 Maptacular Map Pack), maybe in the same way as Last Resort is a remake of Zanzibar. Since it came out that I am not good in forging hills and fog I decided to make the remake structures larger than in the original for better gameplay (shorter lines of sight). Most of the original jumps are possible and due to the size I added and changed some things (like the multiple trees area). The layout is simple: two bases devided by a tower that can be entered via four passages on the ground and on the first level. To get to the other base you can choose an open route ('multiple trees') or the safer sword passage, besides the way through the tower. This map supports all gametypes though it is best suited for Oddball, Slayer and KotH. Weapons and grenades on Mausoleum are nearly the same as on Backwash (the two Shotguns got replaced by Maulers since the Shotgun is stronger in Halo 3 and they were set very close to each other, so, dual-wield the Maulers): 2x Sentinel Beam [180s] 1x Sword [180s] 1x Covenant Carbine [30s] (max. on map = 4) 1x Battle Rifle [30s] (max. on map = 4] 1x Brute Shot [90s] 2x Plasma Pistol [60s] 6x Plasma Rifle [30s] 4x SMG [30s] (max. on map = 8) 2x Mauler [90s] (max. on map = 4) 2x Pistol [30s] (max. on map = 4) 6x Frag Grenade [30s] 6x Plasma Grenade [30s] 1x Active Camo [180s] Pics (haloscreenshots.com):
I tried alot with FX but they were not suiting the atmosphere and way to dark. Backwash was not dark, you just could not see far. It is all for gameplay.
WOW. I had initially written off Backwash as a map that could be remade because I thought it was too intricate and would require too many items. The scenery replacements you made look great, and although I didn't play many games on Backwash, I definitely see the original level in this remake.
Sorry to burst your bubbles but a map called Mausoleum has already been posted. good map though, like the idea (never played halo 2 backwash)
Pros: Probably the best remake of Backwash (it is probably the only remake). The object placement is great, and nice forging on the central tower. Cons: Not that many people played the map Backwash, unless it was with infection. I don't see this map being a great slayer/objective/infection map of any sort. But it is a great aesthetic map.
Sorry to burst YOUR bubbles, but people dont copyright common boring names for maps. Do you know how many maps were called Temple or Ruins? Great remake dude. I was one of the few who were fond of the original, but it wasnt ever a favorite. Glad you took a gamble and went for something other than Ascension, Hang Em High or Warlock.
It is a point. Backwash does not appear in any of the current Halo 2 playlists and I think it is the only Halo 2 map to be treated like this by Bungie. I don't know their reasons but maybe this remake overcome some of 'em. But this layout is basic: two opposing bases with a huge obstacle in between. Not challenging enough? It provides different fun than other maps do. You are faster in meeting the action. Camo + Sword is an unknown power (just 'The Pit' gives a chance but how often does that happen?), Sentinel Beams are AWESOME (it was a great time when I tried them in the very first game, though I needed to put the respawn times from 60s to 3min) and how many people are using Dual-Wields (but the map nearly forces you to pick 'em up and they are powerful, just considered to be slower than a grenade shield take-off + headshot)? This map is in my opinion a change to all professional setups out there and for me it is just fun to play on it.
Backwash was removed because the effects caused poor frame rates at times and if you were Steel then you were pretty much invisible. thesilencebroken adds: Note: Backwash has currently been removed from all matchmaking playlists due to issues with the Active Camo and the Xbox 360 emulation software. If you are playing Backwash in custom games with people with 360s in the party, be sure to turn Active Camo off.
Great remake, and good object placement. I'm glad you didnt try too hard to make it exactly the same, and put a little of your own "flavor" into it. Although like most people I wasn't too into Backwash ( Except trying to read the hidden writing on the outside of the map ) it's still a great remake.
Wow. As far as remakes go, I think this may be one of the best, mainly because very few people have thought of remaking Backwash, and you went ahead and did it. It looks great.
I checked this one out and was pretty impressed. I think it would do beautifully as a Slayer map. Very nice forging, keep it up
Wow, I really like it, great remake you can deffinatly see the original map in there. great job. even tho its not the greatest played map. 5/5
if you REALLY want to simulate the fog effect without making it a drastic effect, try mixing the Juicy filter with the Colorblind filter.
