So in social studies, we are learning about robotic warfare. It helps us defuse bombs, land mines, and even blow up stuff. Do you think its right to use drones and robots? Or do you think its right to fight the way we fighr roday w/o robotic warfare. I think we should not do it because it can be used for evil. Terrorists could fly a $1000 dollar drone and blow up a building. Its just not right. And yes, you can obtain a drone for only $1000 with explosives.
A terrorist would much rather use a person than a drone. The military would much rather use a drone than a person. I do not see the downside, except maybe cost.
on the flip-sdie to this question, we have to ask is it better that they are using a drone? A robot can only follow the instructions it is given so if we find it it is less likly to avade or provide a serious problem. It is also a lot safer and cheaper to build a robot to defuse a bomb. Yes I did say cheaper, well lets look at it, $1000 robot (we can reuse if it survives, can build a new one if BOOM!!), a person (we can reuse if he/she survies, if they die Compo/funeral expenses)
I agree, humans are valuable and priceless, why not take advantage of the incredible technology we have and not risk lives while doing something dangerous. Also agreeing with Hotpokkaminny, a terrorist would most likely not use a robot.
Ever watch that movie Stealth? I think it was along the lines of terrorists capturing the new fighter and reprogramming it to blow up stuff and wreak havoc. That movie was like 2003 or 2004 I barely remember it.
With the technology that's already out there a terrorist could easily make a robobomb or whatever, so it's obviously better to develop and use drones, or else terrorists would have a huge advantage. Not to mention it's way safer, and robots are awesome.
Honestly, Robotic Warfare is a good thing. It reduces human causalities, and reduces chance for error on the battlefield. Sure, it would cost more to program and build a robot than it would to train a human, but in this scenario, the Pros definitely outweigh the Cons. Now, I'm not saying we should be working on developing Robots to do normal everyday things for humans, or give them the ability to think and learn, because that may lead to bad things.
Ok so I just thought of something. We're obviously using more and more robots in the war. So what happens when each side is only using robots? The object of war is to kill the other people right? I think it's going to be more about killing civilians in the future. So I think that in the longterm robots will be bad.
Terrorists cause more fear from the fact that they will willingly cause their deaths too prove a point, as well as other lives. Also, it's quite easy too focus an electro-magnetic pulse into a small beam, suspected devices could easily be de-activated.
It was about a new fighter plane with A.I. technology that got too smart, went A-wall and eventually blew itself up to save the main character. The end. Ok back On topic Not necessarily. The object of war is to destroy your opponent's will to fight the war. If that includes killing civilians, then that's necessary to end the war. Countries don't usually target civilians unless they pose a threat and I believe that will be what the future robotic armies' programming will be centered around. Here's a thought: instead of robots, why not just clone humans and let them be your expendable army? They have natural A.I. technology and can adapt to unpredictable situations because wars never go as planned.
i have previously pondered this question long and hard, and have come to a staggering conclusion: basically, once all the worlds militaries start using drones/robots to fight, we will begin to see battles of just robots, with maybe some tech officers to repair them if needed. once a countries robot army is gone, then the human army would take over and finish off the country. of course, MAD(Mutual Assured Destruction) would ensure no large-scale wars would ever be fought again, unless the leaders were fools who cared not for the sake of the entire world. basically, MAD means no real "wars" will ever be fought again. at the max i would see insurgencies and maybe even some revolutions, but the most drones will ever be good for is likely bomb disposal/diffusion.
of course then you have the ****ing humanitarians and all those wackjobs who say that cloning is immoral or against gods law. i doubt this will ever happen;there would be too much anti-clone people
This is an interesting topic. The use of robotics in warfare is a very... far fetched concept. It does benefit us, but like always, it has it's downfall. A terrorist group could use a drone to attack a country. Robots should be used for very dangerous missions such as clearing mines, going into a unstable cave, et cetera. If a human can do the job, then let a human do the job. It costs money and time to make robots for tasks that a human would do in a heartbeat. As you know, the military is voluntary, and some people are proud to defend their country. And as time goes on, someone would probably make an AI, and we all know what that would lead to.
An object is not evil. It has no soul. Because we all know that a cloned human has no value. How about "save a life use a robot".
Robotic warfare would be awesome especialy if you can control the units like a video game. :] The new age in gaming anyone? lol seriously though I dont see this really happening.
