Star's Guide on how to Post in the Map Forums I am personally getting really tired of members coming into the map forums and posting spam about the maps. And I am sure all of the other members are too. This is going to be my guide on how to post in the map forums. Some members might not agree with all of this completely, but I am sure 99% of them will totally agree. Suggestions: * Do not give the map a rating. This causes everyone that reads the post to think that you are a noob and you are not experienced in the forums. If you do not give a rating, people will think more of you and take your post a bit more seriously. Ex: "This is a really well forged map, I give it a 4.3/5" * Do not talk about Interlocking and/or Geo-merging in your post. This causes everyone to think you didn't even play the map, and that you are just trying to get your post count up. The only way this should be talked about is if it is a top priority. The only way this should be talked about is if it really helps the gameplay or if it really hurts the gameplay. Ex: "This map is really good, but if I were you, I would interlock the boxes a little more to make it more smooth." * Do not go into a map thread and say the map is perfect and not give any feedback. No map is perfect. Find flaws in the map, and try to think of a way to fix this flaw, and then give the feedback and actually try to help the map creator fix these flaws. Ex: "This map is flawless, it can not get any better, great job." No map creator likes it when everybody just says his map is good and doesn't try to help him make it better. Some people might actually like when everybody say they love his/her map but 99.9% of people would love it even more if people actually tried to help make their map better. * Do not flame the thread if you do not like the map. If the map does not please you in any way, than please do not post on the map saying how much it sucks. Ex: "This map sucks and is a waste of time" * Read the previous posts before posting. Be sure to read a couple of posts previous to yours so that you are not repeating something that has already been said 10 times. This can make you look like you payed no attention to what everybody else had to say, and that you did not spend enough time on the thread to actually get a good idea of what it really is. *The most important thing to do when posting about a map in the map forums, is to play the map before posting about it. After playing the map with your friends, you have a better idea of how the map plays and what the flaws are. I do not care how good the pictures are - if you do not play the map, you will not have a full understanding of how the map plays. It will help you find each and every flaw of the map such as bad weapon spawns, rough walkways, not enough cover, etc. Ex: "I love the looks of this map, great interlocking, I will give it a DL right away." These are the most important things to think about when posting in the Map Forums.
I think this covers the main areas of poor posts in the map section rather well, and clearly stated. Good job.
If anybody wants to add a few good suggestions to this guide, then please do so. LOL, epicfishfingers just rated it,wow
Um... You missed an obvious one. Flaming. Even if a map isn't that good, that gives you no right to flame it. I mean, come on, that is just low. If what you are about to post is not constructive criticism then don't post. End of story.
Wow, Star. You actually got something right. I like this. However, I disagree on thing about interlocking and geo-merging. Usually I state all of my ideas on the gameplay, first. Then I would have a paragraph on aesthetics. This is an example: "The aesthetics on this map are very well done. Your interlocking and geo-merging is very precise. It makes the map look, feel, and play better. I also like your touches such as... . But you could fix..." EDITED
Ok, I might have done it when I first started on Forgehub because i wasn't for sure on how to post, but I never do it now. Yes, only use it in your post if it is a top priority or if you really know what you are tlaking about. Such as you did. That is your opinion, but 99% of people would rather have people help them make the map better.
Haha i think nemi was being a little sarcastic there. But ya you've pretty much summed up what needs to be said. Maybe we could, I don't know, sticky this on the maps forum for prevalence of truth? Also a big one, read the other replies first then post your reply, so you dont a) sound stupid for bringing up something that has been stated and/or b) repeating the same "you need pics this thread fails!!" message a billion times
Needs moar interlocking 3/5 +++++++rep Those who know how to moderate are moderating. Those who don't post threads like these.
Ok, this is a perect example of irresponsible members. This thread is just trying to stop the spam in the map forums. It is trying to help the site, which is a lot more then i see coming from Nemihara and norlinsky. I am actually trying to reduce spam, and by posting posts like that, you are apparently trying to create spam. So if you have nothing good to say about this, than do not reply to it. Shock said this thread was ok, so I would rather listen to him, than listen to members that act like you two.
*Sniff* Reminds me of Kayaman and his Minimods! Makes me so proud. If anything else, don't flood the reports like he did.
Those were the good days Nemi, those were the good days... *Looks around* Hmm, I don't have a problem with this thread, as long as the thread itself is not spam, then I think he is helping.
How would this thread be considered spam, it is doing nothing but trying to reduce it. But without proper care, this thread is going no where. It kind of needs a sticky or something, so that new members can learn what not to do in the map forums.
What exactly are you getting from reporting posts? Well, not even really reporting them. You're just publicly speaking out against people in a fashion in which they will no be able to respond. Why? Because they are spammers. Why would a spammer take the time to read this if they don't even read the mainstream threads? You are right that there are spammers and trolls but there is no need to excrete imaginary power unto people's faces. It is doing nothing. Reporting posts, that is good enough. Forge Hub's staff is more than equipped with the tools to vaporize the non-believers. Besides, hasn't Shock said this in just about every single ****ing update? That gets front-paged. Helpful but will go unseen by the relentless army of spammers. You may as well just make a thread saying: Oh wait, that'd be redundant as well, wouldn't it? P.S. There is no need to publicly report people via visitor message. You just make yourself look like another 10 year-old who wants to have a shiny colored name. The report button is there for a reason bub, use it. If you can't wait a whole 60 seconds, then you fail. Oh, I almost forgot. What are you trying to prove? You can report? You make perfect posts? Just stop. You're annoying as **** and I barely come here. Good day.
