OP: I thought about giving you a serious answer, but I'm guessing you wouldn't understand. I'm not trying to be rude, but this thread is ridiculous. If you actually played and enjoyed MLG, you would laugh at yourself for asking that. Again, I'm not trying to be some stuck-up "MLG" kid, but honestly... I'm amazed. Also, no one really cares what B.net kids think. I'm sorry for the rudeness in this post, but the majority of people on the B.net forums don't even know how to spell MLG. Most of them hate MLG, so don't even bother asking MLG related questions there. Back on topic, I'd just like to point out that ALL weapons in Halo take skill to some extent. Even the "noob" weapons. For example, the other day I was playing some customs with some lower skilled players and they decided to do a game of rockets. I, being the better player (not bragging, simply stating facts to emphasis the point), won the game with 25 kills and went extremely positive. The person in second had about 10 kills or so. So you see, although rockets don't necessarily take as much skill as a BR or sniper, they still take some skill. It's a little different in MLG, though. Rockets are in MLG because part of MLG play is controlling power weapons. They can be used as setup breakers, and are something meant to be fought over. Unlike normal MM slayer, in MLG everyone knows when the rockets will spawn and will try to setup to grab them. Same with the sniper and OS. They add depth to the game. You'd understand better if you played MLG a lot. So that's the simple version, although someone else has probably already answered the question (I didn't read through the thread). EDIT: Lol, Pegasi is my hero. Those were some excellent posts!
This is true. This is also true. Sorry to butcher this last paragraph like that, but I thought this point warranted being made clear and made to stand out on its own. This is something that hadn't even occurred to me during my various rants in here, but it is an INCREDIBLY important point. Since MLG is so heavily based on effective team play, 4 good players doesn't ensure a dominating team (I know I've said this before, but just look at Final Boss when they picked up Neighbor if you don't believe me. 4 insanely good players on paper, but they're team play was sub-par so they got walked all over), having a way to break set ups keeps games more back and forth, giving a chance for teams to work their way back into a solid position if they can grab that all important power weapon or OS. I can't believe this didn't occur to me when I was ranting before, but thank you so much for making the point, it is a key aspect of why weapons like rockets are included in many MLG maps.
Elaborating on set-up breakers; There is many examples of why these weapons are in MLG. If you watch the end of a tight Pit Slayer match teams will wait for power weapons to come up. They'll hoard them and once they have them all they'll make a push. If these weapons weren't here then many games would turn into a slow slow standoff and be taken out of the circuit. Speaking of maps taken out of the circuit TS Guardian was taken out because it was too slow. This map had a Camo and a Snipe. Each team would have a set-up, one team blue and gold, the other team snipe and green. The team holding blue and gold will pick up camo, have the camo player sneak over get a kill and die. Snipe and green set-up team would pick up sniper, the other team would be made aware of this and stay out of open areas that the sniper could see them at. These games often ended with the kills in the 40's and time running out. There was no weapons to break set-ups. A rockets or an overshields would have been able to break these set-ups, so why weren't they implemented? The only possible spot for overshields would be bottom glass. This would make it hard to pick-up without being fired upon and burning it. Also it is generally a bad idea to place overshields and camo on the same map. Rockets were just not a useful weapon for this map, there is too many tight corners and many kills would also be a suicide due to the smallness of the map. This map was just unable to support the weapons, so it was removed.
actually I'm pretty sure Guardian Slayer is still in the settings. Although a lot of people would like to see Guard TS removed im pretty sure it is a v6 gametype so we have to wait until v7 to see.
Rockets are all about control, and they give the teams another reason to control an area. They spawn in 3 mins and they change the game up. Even if they're in MLG it doesn't always mean that the weapons have to be pro. They make things easier and the match will need balance.
you are wrong right off the bat. you are assuming that everyone in mlg is uber beast and could beat anyone with their constant 4 shots and sniper headshots. yeah, a lot of mlg players are really good, but mlg is more about teamshots and teamwork than "people who have with such high levels of skill" i have been watching the recent mlg tourney and 7 out of 10 times the player will just injure the other player and leave him, trusting that when he calls him out that his team will get the kill. and the other 3 times he has a teammate teamshooting with him. that and what everyone else said about rockets enhancing the need for map control.. however, i see where you are coming from, and i agree. i personally almost never pick up the rockets myself because i feel that they are cheap and too easy to get a kill with, i like a little more of a challenge, such as a sniper
