I have started a competetive map. I am using tin cups to make a grass like floor. I am very good at interlocks but I can't get rid of the bumps from one to another. The rest of the maps looks like I want it is just if I post it people freak out over a bumb. (OMG bumb what to do, what to do, it ruined the entire gameplay) There are not any gaps or anything, it is just a little bumpy. (not to bad but noticable) the guy that made gold rush had almost no bumps so I know it is possible. I don't know if it matters, but I am working in the sky box. I don't want to get ripped to shreds when I post because the ground is a little bumpy. Anyone know how?

Have you tested it yet? Usually bumps seem huge when you are alone, but in actual gameplay it is not as bad as you think. Leave it as it is now, and test it out. Then you should analyze the gameplay and obtain feedback from the testers. With that you can see if the bumps are an actual problem. You should ask whomever plays with you if they thought it was a problem.

Personally, I do not think that bumps are a huge problem unless they directly affect a major section of the map negatively. I wouldn't worry about it. Usually, if the are would contain a lot of strafing and similar tactics, it is not good to have bumps, but it all depends. Like I said above, test it out.

If it turns out to be a huge problem, listen to these techniques. You could try using a mancannon to get the tin cup to be laying down as close as it can on whatever it is resting on. Make sure to do it the same way to every one. Or, you could use a guide. Place the guide on top of the initial tin cup and proceed by slipping the others underneath.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

There will be less bumps if the surface you're placing the tin cups on is flat. If you placing them on the grid, then all should be fine and well, but if you're placing them on a floor you made yourself, make sure that is made of large objects, so that there isn't much room for height changes. Honestly, as long as you can walk from one cup to another, and you don't do a huge "hop" (where your feet get lifted off the ground) when walking between cups, it should be fine. Also look for holes where grenades can fall through or get caught.

Just do it to a degree YOU'RE happy with. If they aren't bitching about bumps they're bitching about z-fighting, and i'd prefer bumps any day.

The biggest problem is that the top surface of the tin cups isn't flat, so when you place them upside down, they may tilt a little bit. I had the same problem, so I used a geomerging technique to fix it.

First, lay down a bunch of double walls over the surface that you want to be grassy. Then put double boxes on top of the double walls and turn off respawning at the start for the walls and boxes. Since the double boxes are all floating slightly above the ground, they create a broad flat surface for tin cups. Place a tin cup on the ground where you want it to be, and then force spawn the double boxes. The tin cup should be slightly interlocked with the double boxes above it, so just grab it and let go for it to sit right up against the bottom surface of the boxes. Continue making the grass by this method and all of the tin cups should be about level with each other.

I have to warn you, it still took me a long time to do it. My biggest problem with this method was that the tin cups would overlap in awkward ways resulting in that flashy, seizure-inducing look. Therefore, I had to go back and redo them a lot in order to get rid of it. And depending on where you grab the tin cup, it may still not be perfectly level. Through time, you'll get used to grabbing from different directions.

Good luck, and try not to get too annoyed.

Thanks for the help. I still am going on with them a little bumpy. It is about as bumpy as walking across non interlocked boxes. There are No genade falling holes. I wish there was an easy solution but these seem kind of time consuming. I still want to see if anyone has an easy solution because I am not done yet. (or even close) I spent 1 hour making colums looked curved and fixing the center to make it look great. I just do not want people to go crazy over the bumps as usual.
