I came across two really good capture cards and I wanted to know which one do you halo 3 Machinima makers use. Or any one who uses a capture card. I am going to put my two favorite capture cards in a poll and if you want you can vote on which one you like better. If you like a different capture card then post what it is and why you like it better.
I prefer the Dazzle with Pinnacle Studio. Dazzle Video Creator Plus makes DVD burning and DVD recording simple and easy I think most people use that or ATI TV USB 2.0.
Are these 2 capture cards you're considering buying? The Dazzle Platinum will capture video up to 720 x 576, not bad and good if you're just going to be uploading to YouTube. Clever compression and resizing to 640 x 480 and it is possible to get videos which look very good on YouTube. The Have HD Wireless, I've honestly never heard of it. I did some research and found out why. I assume it will record video at HD quality but its very expensive (at least it is compared to other CCs): $249.99 If money is no object, then I'd be tempted to go for the Hava. But I'm sure for that price you could get a better capture card, one where you are actually told the resolution it will record in. But the Dazzle Platinum seems like the safer option. Many people already use it, its cheaper and its probably not wise to start of with an HD Capture Card, you'll need a good PC and a good video editor to cope with the huge file sizes. I got a Dazzle Platinum because I'm in the UK and there aren't many capture cards which are affordable and support Pal 60.
Dazzle gives me awesome quality and it also comes with some pretty nice editing software. I heard that the red Dazzle DVC 90 doesn't work with Vista, but I'm 99% positive that the silver Dazzle DVC 100 is compatible. There might be a patch on there website to, roam around their website to find patches and free effect packs if you deicide the Dazzle as your future capture card. I've never heard about the Hava though so I can't really compare them.
My Dazzle Premium DVC 100 was around $100. I see it as a good price. That Dazzle DVC 90 is around $50 I think, but I've seen some footage from it and it was really pixely.
I bought an easy cap for 20 dollars and picture is perfectly fine so I will be damned before I buy a 50 dollar capture card for a pixely picture.
There was a bit of trouble when Vista was released, but back then there was trouble with nearly everything not being supported properly on Vista. Now Dazzle has released a driver suitable for Vista. I remember having a bit of trouble getting it to work properly but nothing too serious, its all fine now.
Thus us the one that i won and it works very well. I purchased it because one of my friends uses had owned it for several months, and he told me how well it worked.
I don't know if you guys know this brand but I would prefer Plextor, It's a capture card easy to set up/use and picture comes out not perfectly High Definition, but provides standard high quality picture. Sound recording is hard to mess with because at some points of usage it will make static noises if something is loud on what it's recording. That my be just my card because It's like 5 years old. Btw, It comes with it's own program 'Inter Video WinDVD creator'
If you're getting a dazzle DVC 100 ( I recommend it, I have it) make sure the computer you're using (if it has vista) has 32 bit.
well there is a patch for the 64 bit vista,(that is what i have) It's a bit of a hassle since it will thenn only directly work with new versions of Pinnale studio, or you can use the program they have to capture it and then send it somewere else. If you are just starting to consider a capture card, Get the Dazzle.
Don't trust the reviews of products on Amazon 100%. You have to take them with a pinch of salt. It isn't the dazzle itself that has the potential to not work with Vista, it's the software (Pinnacle). The Dazzle DVC 100 comes with studio 11, which works with Vista 32-bit, unlike some earlier versions, which only work with XP. I assume studio 12 and onwards also work with Vista, so get a Dazzle Platinum version 100 or more. DVC stands for digital video creator btw. And if you still don't believe it works with Vista: Notice the colour Halo 3 picture (Vapour Knuckles will recognise this clip). Not shown: audio. You'll also need 3 RCA Y-splitters and a male-to-male RCA cable. Setting it Up Once you've got all your shiznit, it should look like this: First, plug both of the corresponding colours into a Y-splitter (If you have a black male-headed bit on your RCA cable instead of a white one, don't fret; white = black): Then plug the end of the Y-splitter into the correct coloured hole in the Dazzle (ignore the S-video slot) When set up, it should look like this, with your 360 lead going in one saide, and the RCA male-to-male lead coming out of the other side: Now plug the other end of the RCA lead into a scart converter (my one is an input/output one, but it doesn't matter, set it to input if it has a switch like mine): Plug that into a scart input on your TV: And make sure you set your 360 cable's output to TV, not HDTV: The signal will still go through the dazzle even if it is not plugged into a computer. But the picture quality on your TV will be ever so slightly less sharp. EDIT: I just discovered this on eBay. I don't think Dazzle DVC 100's come in red, only white or black. I think these are falsely-advertised. So if you want to make sure you're buying a Dazzle DVC 100, check the video creation formats. If MPEG-4 is NOT on the list, then it is NOT a Dazzle DVC 100.
