Whats A Walnut Created by What's A Scope? and Paulie Walnuttz Download Whats A Walnut Awarded by TG Staff Member Whisper Just as the last nail is hammered, a fist breaks through the metaphorical wood of Foundry's coffin. This fist is Whats A Walnut... "Why did cities like this turn into hell holes? I blame corruption. 6-14 players" Map Description Don't let the comical name fool you; this map promotes a tactical, unique style of gameplay. What’s A Walnut is a symmetrical, urban established map that blends several different types of gameplay. As stated, this map provokes tactical gameplay similar to Guardian. Much like Guardian, you can almost travel the whole perimeter of the map in a safe operation whilst the center is quite populated with crosshairs. With that being said, a risk versus reward technique involving time, distance, and caution is created. In this map, secruity lies above not below. Originally for the Template Contest, the map's original plan was to be for BTB gameplay, but it has transformed into a more practical 4v4 type map. What’s A Walnut coherently blends the two types of game play. Along with those, What’s A Walnut combines close-quarters battles, long range duels, and vehicular combat. With this refreshing urban feel and unique gameplay, What's A Walnut uses easy transitions from vicinity to vicinity. Paths, vehicles, and teleporters allow you enter and exit areas easily. If you're an upfront fellow, take the standard flamethrower route granting you quick access to the enemy’s base. If like to intimidate players take the middle route, giving you permission to the Rockets and a nice line of sight. Or, if you use stealth to your advantage utilize the outskirts where a Camouflage is located. All that combined creates interesting gameplay each run, yet still keeping the player entertained. This map really does let a player’s true tactics, strategies, and team work, shine. To sum that all up, What's A Walnut is a unique map that sticks out from the crowd. Every game becomes fun and interesting. No matter what type of player you are, a MLG pro or a rocket race veteran, this map can appeal to you in someway. Give it a spin. Well Scope Glad you got this posted. You and Mr. Caruso really took this map that you could have rushed and submitted it into the contest and put your time into it. The result was an amazing map. The team slayer is fun and balanced while the interesting structures make the map fun to walk around as well as to play on. Paulie’s ability combine with yours mixes like peanut butter and jelly. The house that Paulie built is a fine centerpiece while the back complex is awesome for different elevations and flow very nicely. Overall I think that I just loved working on this with you because of the fact that it is an awesome map and because you’re an awesome guy. I hope everybody sees this map for its may awesome qualities and good luck to both you and Paulie. You guys are awesome map makers and awesome friends!
This map looks good I like it that its big and clean and the gametypes are nice I did not know it was for infection i will try it out.
The only game I got to play on this was FFA Slayer but I still have to say that it was outstanding. Everything was very balanced and I never felt like I would be able to dominate or be dominated. And to top it off, very neat forging. The layout was very complex and the weapon choice kept the game moving in a balanced way. And you got teleporters to work well on a map. Great job on this.
Hehe, I was in one of the tests. It's quite the awesome map you've made yourself there. I wasn't really paying any or much attention to feeble things like merging and geomerging, but more on winning (what can I say, I'm not in the testers guild), and I have to say, your map has multiple ways to victory. I like it a lot! The map has a very unique feel to it, and plays very well. Well done
I am glad you like it, sharp. Thanks again for helping me on somethings. Thanks. Actually Infection works pretty well on this. The humans spawn in one of the bases while the zombies spawn in the back area. Thanks. I was actually surprised that people enjoyed FFA. I am glad you enjoyed this map. If you like FFA Slayer, you should check out some of the other gametypes. Thanks.
Im glad the guild likes the map and is being accepted by many, whats a scope and myself really put quite a few hours into this one, scope it was a pleasure working with you on this one.
yaaay, you posted it, this was one helluva lot of fun, we tested it on every single gamemode, and it worked out great, the spawns are perfect and the map has a unique design, and im on the testers list, woot. although i might consider taking out the hogs, maybe adding a ghost or 2? good job scope and paulie, 5/5
This is a really unique Foundry map. It is in the sense that it separates the bottom and top floors completely, resulting in good gameplay and necessary strategies emerge. The warthogs work surprisingly well in such a small map because of their ground control, but lack of second-story control. If you like a new modern competitive map, this is the one for you. Hit the link to the fileshare. Any ideas on an MLG version?
I played this the other day, if I recall correctly, I was in a party with you. The map played very well and the aesthetics are great two. It really is one of the more interesting maps I have played, it really has a variety of different routes and jumps. I very much enjoyed playing this map. Both of you are excellent forgers.
Great fun! Thanks ROFLninja! I think, overall the hogs work as a power weapon rather than a tool of destruction (i.e. ownage). I would consider your idea, but the budget glitch will not allow. I am glad you like it. I think you caught what we were going for. MLG? I think maybe we could work something up. Thanks.
Just played this. I wanted to give you my opinion on this map. Ok, first I will start with the layout. What I really liked the most about this was how original it was and the starting both of both teams were very interesting. There were parts of the map that were very rarely used though. I played 4 on 4, as you know, and the middle seemed to be the hot spot on the map, that and the higher areas. I was able to escape the map during the game and pick people off with the BR, that seemed to be an advantage for me, but a disadvantage for the other team. The many different levels of this map made it stand out from other foundry maps. The use of the many walls seemed amazing with gameplay and gave me inspiration for my next map. I wanted to point in as well that you guys did a good job with taking your time with interlocking, geomerging, etc. In conclusion, this map played great, the flamethrower was a great addition in this map with the warthog. They seemed to make the map flow together way better. The unique layout and incredible gameplay makes this map stand out. The only disadvantages is some of the unused parts of the map. Very nice job guys 8.9/10
As a first note, this map has some of the most original structures I've seen in a while, and thats saying something. Not only did you combine great aesthetics, but also wonderful gameplay, to say the least. Slayer -It was very fun, and very balanced. I can not believe you were able to use a flamethrower on this map, AND make it work out, unbelievable. -The sniper was very powerful on this map, but did not go over the top, as most maps let it do. Allowing the amount of cover on this map, while keeping it open in the middle was very cool, as you didn't OVERbalance it. Flag -Not so good, as the main areas were the only parts used. -It was too hard to capture the flag, especially if the other team had rockets. -DON"T LET SHARP DESIGN YOUR GAMEPLAY, lulz. Well, thats all I have to say, its a great map that everyone should play and DL, I definitally recommend it, and give my own seal of approval. APPROVAL, SHABBAMM
hense why flag isn't listed above... and its not my fault he designed a map that is ****-ed up for CTF. the design just doesn't support it!
Thanks, eguitar. I am glad you enjoyed it. I understand that some parts of the map aren't used as much as others for obvious reasons, but I feel that once you play the map long enough you begin to learn how to utilize these areas. I'm glad that you liked Slayer. I think that is the map's strong point. Sharp's right. Flag just doesn't fit with this map.
I would just like to point out that I play tested a few rounds with you on this one, Scope (don't want to sound like that guy, but w/e). This is by far one of my favorite recent Foundry maps, it has balance and irregularities that make gameplay frantic and fun. The vehicles are balanced so well that people normally don't even use them so infantry to vehicle combat is equaled out which is a great accomplishment. The weapon layout is one of my favorite things about the map; a large amount of power weapons, that all can be useless because of the heights the map has making it difficult to pick up that awesome weapon and run to cover with it. Aesthetics are good; interlocking and geomerging are spot on and the map has a overall good look to it.
I think you understand how I set vehicles up. I wanted to act less as a dominant item on some maps such as Standoff and more like a power weapon. A simple mauler cannot dominate a team, but if used skillfully, you can rack up some kills. Skillful drivers and gunners will be rewarded. Unlike power weapons such as sword which takes little skill, these vehicles need to be used skillfully. Thanks!
This map "NEEDZ MOAR ATTENCHUN!" On to the review. LAYOUT/FLOW: Whats A Walnut uses the tried and true "two bases side by side" style layout that has been the foundation for some of Halo's greatest maps, both forged and Bungie made. Each base is located on the far-side of Foundry, by each fan. The bases have their own "Sub-Base" which is linked to it's respective base via a two way teleporter. In the center, lies a building, that overlooks all the action, and houses the laser. The map has just enough lines of sight and elevation so gameplay won't get stale, but not too much, that it becomes unenjoyable. Jumps from structure to structure are very easy to pull off, which makes What's A Walnut's streamlined gameplay, even better. Weapons: Whats A Walnut has a wide variety of weapons and vehicles to cater to every play style. The Balance between the Laser and the vehicles is good, and the Warthogs play more of a supporting role, rather than an unstoppable force. The sniper rifles play an important role as well. However, their shallow clip makes players take their shots carefully. Gameplay: Whats A Walnut is certainly a map that boasts some Stellar gameplay. The structures and layout are perfect for both vehicular and infantry mayhem. Even on CTF (which is not a recommended gametype for Whats A Walnut) I had a blast. The bases are perfectly defendable too, not too overpowered, but not too underpowered, which makes objective games even more enjoyable. Final Thoughts: Whats A Walnut is a map that should definitely be given a try, if not a permanent space on your Hard Drive. The Stellar Gameplay, combined with Amazing Interlocking and Geomerging, make this one of the best maps in recent time. Pros: - Amazing Interlocking - Great Balance - Fun with nearly any party size, and gametype Cons: - Flag could be Better (But, who really plays that anyway? Final Score: A+ This map was a really fun map to test with you Scope. I really hope this gets featured (it definitely deserves it) and I think it has the potential to see it's way into Matchmaking (if you didn't budget glitch). This Map is "The Cheat Approved."
