I am in no means a violent person, but what's so wrong about punching now? Self defense is just a means of protecting your person. So he was playing a basketball game and people were scratching him violently and on purpose, and the school just expects him to walk away? He would be ridiculed if he had just left, so he gave the boy in question a taste of his own medicine. Your brother punched him not because he was bipolar, but because there was reasonable harm being done to him. There was obviously no intent of severe injury at least by your brother. In fact, if the other boy was having a day where the bipolar was evident, his parents should have kept him home or seen to it that he was properly medicated if that was an option.
And what kind of society do we live in when an aggressor can sue someone who punched them in the face for a million dollars and press assault charges? Do people have no common sense or empathy anymore? If your son is bipolar, there are risks that come with it. One of the risks is an aggressive personality. Blame the incident on his condition, not the person acting in self defense.

I had a similar thing happen to me once. I'm not the best basketball player ever, but it's fun to play with my friends. Nowadays we go to the courts in the local playground outside of our school. We just chill out and relax all cool while playing some b-ball outside of school. Then a couple of guys who were up to no good started making trouble in the neighborhood. I got in one little fight, and my mom got scared, and she said, "You're moving with your aunty and uncle in Bel Air!" I whistled for a cab and when it came near, the license plate said FRESH and had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought, "Nah, man, forget it. Yo holmes, to Bel Air!" I pulled up to the house around 7 or 8 and I yelled to the cabby, "Yo holmes, smell ya later!" I looked upon my kingdom, I was finally there, to sit on my throne as the prince of Bel Air.

first is there any proof that this greg ever had reconstructive surgery and how od you know it was his glasses that caused the surgery

if greg was known to be bi-polar perhaps you should do something to provoke a rage similar to this to prove how easy he was to set off

perhaps you could use your brothers record of behavior, by this i mean you show how your brother has never attacked anyone, and if he never has why would he do it?

thats all the advice i have

    1. The police advised you not to press charges, mention this in court and find out what the police told Jacob's parent's.

    2. Jacob attacked your brother first, find at LEAST one witness!

    3. Bring up the fact that they threatened to sue you for $1,000,000 as it will make the family look greedy/ stupid. Also bring up how the school unfairly expelled your brother for ONE fight, whereas it seems this Jacob kid should have been taken care of by the school years ago.

    4. Sounds like this Jacob kid has a history, and where there is history there is evidence, speak to parents of other kids he has interfered with, or a teacher at the school. Also find evidence of his Bi-polar disorder, he may be on medication, and you could bring that up in court.

    5. It will eventually come out that this kid attacked first, but you can't let them undercut the damage he did. If you saw the cuts, you could testify about the wounds he inflicted.

I wonder if you could get this kid to act up in court. Anger him in some petty way. That'll demolish their case esentially. And this is all really good advice. STWOW, you shouldn't really have posted either.

So Sweeney, we're all waiting. What happened?

I have no clue at this point. We haven't been told much of anything as of late, all we know is that the police had went to the school earlier this week, interviewed some children, and then left. We haven't heard anything since.
