GrifGolf YouTube - Halo 3 Sandbox - GrifGolf Forged By: Gollygeeanelite (FanaticGreekboy) Core concept and many other ideas by: StolenSteal Gametype-Assault (5 rounds) Recommended players: 2v2 through 4v4 WE EDITED THIS MAP BECAUSE SOME PARTS WERE NOT PERFECT! It's really hard to reach the top of the red and blue bases now. The thin bridges were drastically straightened, and new aesthetic touches have been added. Minor changes have been madeto the gametype as well. I will try to post new screenshots as soon as I have more time. Hey all, and welcome to my friend StolenSteal and I's newest map, GrifGolf! This is the first map that we forged together and we put a lot of time and ideas into it. StolenSteal started this map by asking, "What if there were 18 tin cups floating in the air in the skybubble?" Then we quickly thought," What if we had some sort of...floating Grifball?" Annnnnnnnnnd....BAM! just like that, GrifGolf was created! We started to organize the playing field with tin cups, made several modifications, produced bases at each end with awesome designs, and added the icing on the cake. Then we tested the map with several other people, adjusting and reajusting the gametype as we thought of better ways to balance the game and make it more fun. This map is very competitive! Misjumping leads to your death! To explain the gameplay more accurately, let me introduce you to some screenshots. This is what the bases look like from a frontal view. What is shown above is a side view of the base to show you that I blocked off the top so nobody can camp there. This is the playing field for the first 60 seconds of the round. After 60 seconds elapses, thin wooden bridges spawn lengthwise as well as pallets at the edge of the map. I've also added Obelisks in as well as Overshields and Active Camo to indicate bases. This is what it looks like for the last two minutes of each round as mentioned above. Here is an overview of the court from behind one of the bases. Action shots: High in the air, about to score on red. Just a hardcore shot Mapmakers v. The testers. Note that the sides switch every round, thats why Blue (The Mapmakers) are heading to what seems like their own base. Notes:Sudden Death occurs for 30 seconds. If someone falls off with the bomb, then someone must be right on the bomb prepared to pick it up in order for Sudden Death to continue. Also, there are NO shields for the bomb carrier or for normal players. Instead, the damage resistance is set to 500 percent. The Ballholder's gravity is set to 125 percent and has the ability to one-hit kill. Spawn camping is not a problem since the spawns are spread out nice, we tested for it as well. Sweet, just played this about 2-3 hours ago in StolenSteal's game. The concept is unique, and while it takes some time getting used to, once you do, it's pretty fun. However, I think you should have pointed out that you set the DR to 500%, the ball carrier gets lower gravity, etc. (that means you have to try and knock people of the edge with your hammer, or slash them about 3-4 times with your sword, although the bomb carrier can kill in one hit, so you have to strategize further than normal grifball) Oh yeah, and technically, there's no 'Grif' as the ball carrier is white, not orange. Still, pretty fun game, I'd recomend it to just about anyone.
Hey dude, yeah we had a lot of fun. I'm going to talk to StolenSteal about the color of the bombholder. I'm also going to make note of everything you mentioned. Thanks!
Have a nice fall = win. The concept seems really good and original, especially because the playing area is much smaller. The fact that if you miss a jump you will really encourage a lot more thought. Great job! 8/10.
i think you should mention earlier that the game is used with a bomb o.o.... i thought you were going to be given golf balls and grav hammers to shoot into the holes for the first few seconds there... speaking of which, an odd, but good idea that sounds like itll make for a fun random-tosity game when a few of my party members are high XD also what is the recommended amount of players for this game? 2v2? 4v4? confuzzled here x.x
It works with around the same number of people as grif-ball. 2 is okay, and 4's pushing it. With 1-2, the action is pretty slow. With 5 or more, it just gets too crowded, and people will start getting pissed at eachother for knocking eachother off with stray shockwaves. So about 3-4.
Wouldn't some1 just want to play normal Grifball? And are the scaffolds just for scenery or do they have a point? Also, there are way to many holes.
The scaffolds prevent people from being spawn killed in certain instances, but they are also for scenery. We decided to keep them there since it compliments the flags on the tin cups nicely. The idea IS to have gaps, you have to knock your opponent off of the skybubble when they jump towards your base. GrifGolf takes a little bit of time to get used to but you will have so much fun. Believe me, this map is a ton of fun and it's very cometitive and strategic. Ahh...the map is actually proportional to foundry. In fact, it actually is a bit bigger. I timed the lenghts of the maps and my map is one second longer.
Haha, for some reason StolenSteal and I could not seem to make the 7 woods that are placed on the 8 weapon holders spawn. They only seem to spawn in non assault gametypes. The 7 woods spawn in team slayer and forge, that's all we tested. If someone possibly made it work out, message me.
i got 7 Wood starts to work fine in my map Chichén Itzá (Mayan Grifball) - have a look at the settings and see if there are any differences - look way up! on my map i use the custom power-ups to give the 4 outside players 3 seconds of weapon pickup as it is normally turned off in the Grifball game variant
Dang that is an intense grifball map NOKYARD! ^^ The custom powerup pickup is a very goodidea but I'm not sure if it could work out for GrifGolf. StolenSteal and I cannot find a way to allow the 7 woods to spawn. We allowed weapon pickup and set weapons on map to map default, we can't findout what specifically is affecting the 7 woods, preventing them from spawning. As of now, I have updated this map and named it as GrifGolfv2 and StolenSteal created another game variant that changed the bombholder's color to Grifs. He also removed the swords because in certain instances, people were abusing it's secondary weapon nature. I believe that he might have also adjusted several other things but I can't remember what they were right now. Well people, enjoy the map. I'll hopefully post newer shots tomorrow if I'm not too tiredfrom track. I'll be back then most likely =D ~Gollygeeanelite
This looks rather fairly fun,but it does have flaws in the map.Why don't you put a flat surface and the tin cups to jump on.So that is a helper there. But here looks like a human, ball,or anything else might fall off of your map.
B/C you cant start w/ 7-woods then you should put 4 on each side still so its more "golf like" b/c otherwise the only golf is the tin cups, you should add some random golf balls around the arena and have 4 7-woods on each base to pick up if you want to be cooler =D EDIT: I see NOKYARD got it to work, IDK if that is a mod or not though
I know, I know, that's the first thing we did. I don't have pictures of the map in forge so I can't show you. StolenSteal and I can't find a way to cause the 7 woods to spawn. I would have to get him to edit the gametype. We didn't understand why the 7 woods spawned in slayer and not in our version of assault. I'm sorry I don't like your random golfball idea becuase i want this map to be competitive and to have no abstructions on the playing field. I don't understand what your saying. Please clarify yourself; you might be saying to use the tin cups as flooring to jump on, that is their purpose. Yes, you are suppose to fall off the map, that is the whole idea, to knock people out of the map with gravity hammers. It's very fun, try playing it with 5 or 7 other people.
awesome idea, you have an original here(maybe...lol) can't believe something like this is possible =D lmao good job tho, I salute you
Thanks, it really does play great, its almost like the Grifball disease cause you keep wanting to go back for more. Knocking enemies off a small platform to their deaths will always be an entertaining ordeal. But people, please leave comments if you have constructive criticism. I like the support and phrase but it's really only half my map anyways. Just try to give me suggestions on things to fix so I can address them. Also, spread the word too, that helps =D.
same here this is amazing my friends and i had lots of fun like u say you did. im going to play this again 2night
Everyone, thank you for the comments. If someone could possibly provide me with another website where I could share this map with a large community that's possibly Grifball centered, that would be great. Any suggestions on the map that are appropriate are also very helpful. If you enjoy GrifGolf, share it with your friends like I share other people's maps that are here at Forgehub. Thank you for checking out the game and please try it out.
