So, yeah. A lot of you work together with others in their map-making, but I can't see the advantages you can gain. How I see it, you only get in eachothers way, and if you don't coördinate perfectly well, a brilliant map idea can turn out horrible above horrible. Besides, I think it's all frustrating. I use a lot of new-round starting, so you'd first need to wait for your forgemate to be ready with whatever he's doing, and then start new round. Personally, I just prefer working solo. You can do whatever you want without worrying about someone else whom might run in the way, or in whose way you might run. Heck, I dunno, I've never forged together with someone, so I might simply be missing the entire point of forgemates. I actually checked the look-for-a-forgemate thread for some information as of -why- you'd want one, but I dunno. Company? Come on, give me some advantages of co-op forging, except that if you work together very closely (in the same room might even be best..) you can get your map finished twice as quickly.
Well, it is much easier to float objects, not to mention, you have a second set of eyes that can move all around an object while you are placing it. Typically, you do not do separate things, but instead you work together on something. Other forgers also provide creativity when you are at a loss for an idea. In addition, friends provide company and can relieve stressful parts of forging. Some people do not enjoy working with others, you are a fine example, but plenty of people work better in parties than by themselves.
I prefer to forge alone too (partially just because I like to be secretive), but sometimes a partner of equal interest is really helpful. You wouldn't get in each others' ways if you were working together. And it depends on who is more invested in the map. One time I was making a map, and I had a friend join to check it out while I was working on it. He didn't touch anything, and then he offered to spawn a bunch of the item that I was working with, so I just had a nice hoard to grab from. You just have to make sure you either both have the same interests and ideas in mind, or that one of you is the primary mapmaker and the other is just there for assistance. One thing I even do is sign in two accounts to forge, and I use one for a better visual angle when I'm trying to position something. I wouldn't mind at all if someone was willing to become that motionless second account, but I would prefer we be on the same screen in that case.
Co-op forging is usually full of lag, once the lag broke the budget glitch by turning all run-time max down somehow... And when i forge hundreds of thoughts rush though my head and I can't share them with a second person. I personally perfer to forge alone. It's annoying when people ask "hey can i make a map with you" i'm like "nah, i like forging solo" then they're is bitter disbelief and they're like "well fine then" but i'm actually honest then end up forging with them anyway.
I prefer to forge alone too. The point about having an extra set of eyes to help you keep things straight does not make sense to me, unless you are signed in as a guest and are using your own eyes. Whenever someone is in my party and I am forging, they always say how things arent straight when meanwhile they are. I guess its just lag, but it gets in the way
When people Collab, they don't actually forge together. It's more the planning stages, then you build and then pass it off to your partner. Actually forging at the same time is silly.
So the purpose of forgemates is making a collab? I see the point in making a collab, or even a forge tennis (you make a part, save and send to someone else, they make a part on the same map, save, send back to you, you make a part and so on. I'm sure it has another name too) , just not in forging at the same time.
They can critisise you and vice versa, it improves your techniques, Ive found that other peoples techniques of doing things are much easier than yours sometimes and they overall just keep you company and bounce ideas at you...
