Ok, fair response on the FF story fronts, X did have an OK story I'll admit, quite annoying times, but not badly constructed overall by any means. I haven't played Echoes of Time so I can't really comment on that. Wow, stick to your guns, nice. But I'm sorry, those points are debatable, especially the Keyes' death point since the story element of Halo developed MASSIVELY between Halo CE and Halo 3, in that they put more effort and detail in to it. What I'm really talking about is Halo 3, yet I still like Halo CE's plot in a way because of the retrospective feeling it now gives of knowing so little of the larger picture and only scratching at the surface of what you know to be the terrible truths, maybe I put this on it myself, but I still enjoy it as a result. But back to Halo 3, I don't think Johnson's death was pathetic, maybe the cutscene itself could have been scripted better, but the only reason I can see to view the writing of the event as pathetic is because of how crappy Spark is as a boss. But this is a gameplay issue, the fact that the Halo Campaign has never really done bosses that well because it's not that kind of game, it's almost a hoarde game, but not quite. But the writing isn't bad imo, Johnson's death is touchy because he's a central and well liked character, a classic, and he falls to what turns out to be the final and most immediately diametric opponent, bloody minded and coldly robotic. And tbh, even then I thought the pinnacle of cut scenes in Halo was in 2 in many ways, in terms of the cinematic brilliance. The balance of tongue in cheek with epic win in the spirit of great action-sci fi films was just right for a game like Halo, and the Johnson cut scenes demonstrated this best. The dialogue was classic, his 'Regret' speech is just brilliant, and MC's "Giving the Covenant back their bomb" is a one liner worthy of Die Hard. But the beauty of the Halo plot is it's sheer size and depth, if you're talking about the Halo story itself it goes beyond comparison with games like FF, and the writing is able to be much more in depth and immersive as a result if you ask me. It's more on a scale of stuff like Star Wars in terms of a whole created universe, maybe not quite the same as that, but still a more comparable point. The questionable ethics and hazy areas between the varying sides are interesting when you get into the more in depth aspects of the Halo universe, albeit still a bit 'good vs. bad' in the games, especially Halo CE (but, again, that was a beginning, obviously it was going to be more basic before the plot evolved and took off as the games did). Even in Halo 3, the cut scenes get in to more interesting characterisation in peeps like the Elite Shipsmaster, the Elite allegiance with the Humans but the underlying tension and differing agendas. Yet when you get outside of the games then it gets even deeper, with the highly questionable ethical standpoint of the Spartan project itself, the whole flash clones thing and the traumatised plight of the Spartan III's. I think the Halo plot got better and better, and whilst the height of really bang on cut scenes was in Halo 2, H3 still ain't too shabby in that respect if you ask me.
i think halo and ff stories are two different stories for different people halo is more action and always something happening while final fantasy is more complex and goes into the politics of the world its set in i personally think comparing the two stories is comparing two different things
In my opinion, they tried making the Halo 3 storyline a more of a drama, and failed. That's what it looked like to me. I mean, I know some great stories where my favorite character dies, and I like them, however, this I can't put up with. I guess it's a matter of opinion though.
like i ssaid before halo and final fantasys stories are two different things i personally dont care about halos story i just play it for fun but when i play final fantasy i play for the story
They may be two different things, but every good story has good structure. I'm talking about Halo 3's story as a structure. I will read/watch anything if it has a good structure. So I'm not basing this off of it's art style, or characters, or etc.
yea i agree though sometimes art style will effect my view and aslo for example anime has its own unique art style and from what ive een simmilar stories im not into anime though but some peopl dont enjoy it while others do maybe for the story maybe for the art style but it seems the art style and story go together in anime and sometimes do effect eachother for example in the recent overated prince of persia had a darker story ye had a bright art style making the story seem sort of un immersive and un real when comparing it to the world and aslo overall was a bad game so i think the art and other things can effect story
So basically everyone is required to like Final Fantasy VII because the storyline was the best and the characters were the best...and they made a super ****ing awesome movie. If you don't like VII then go kill yourself because that game was duh bomb. But in all seriousness I enjoyed VII very much and played half of VIII and bits of the rest.
